missing equipment

Thanks for all of the responses to my my original post.... If I understand this correctly, the correct sized screen is installed in the car, but the "chip" to fully "power" the screen is not.
Do we think at some point the dealer will be able to replace the chip and the screen will function "full size?"

Just my opinion, nothing more:

See post #60, where the dealer is reordering the car. If the chip could be replaced then this would not be necessary.

Having given a credit of $150 for the missing chip, I do not think the chip will be replaced.

In a similar vein, having given a credit of $100 in the Premium Package for the deletion of the Hands Free for the trunk, I also do not think that the chip will be replaced.

see my post #52

Note there's a difference between 'will be' and 'could be'.

And frankly this fellow has taken it upon himself to be the source of our information, I have no idea if he is right or not. My advise is to keep an open mind, and try to find out what you can.

Since the dealers are of little help with this, we will just have to go by actually experiences trying to fix this. It will eventually be sorted out. Fortunately, this type of technology I'm familiar with, unlike just about everything else in a car . So I'm especially interested in possibilities of fixing the issue.

Of course: everything, if you are willing to spend enough money, time and effort can be done. Whether it will be done is another story.

We are only interested in what will be done, not what can be done.

We?

Do you have a car on order and are waiting? Or have you received a vehicle with the smaller setup recently?

What are the packages your vehicle has and you were able to confirm all the settings are enabled with like traffic sign assist etc.
What display style did you set your HUD? I remember there is minimal like only speed, navigation+speedometer, or navigation+speedometer+posted speed limit

My HUD does NOT allow for the speed limit to display. I can only show the following distance or the ride height. When I drove the car off the lot, there WAS a speed limit sign showing in the (smaller than normal) driver display screen but it disappeared in minutes and never came back. The dealer told me that ANY speed limit signs only appear if the $1,950 DA2 Driver Assistance Package is installed. When I did my test drive in a 2021 model I was able to display the map full screen on the driver side and this screen does not allow it. I have also seen some passenger screens with a split display where NAV and radio may be seen together. Again, not possible in ours. I think the 10" screens are from a different (lesser) model and are missing functionality. They have re-ordered my car so I will have a first hand report in a couple months.

That is strange, especially how it did appear before and then suddenly gone.

Edit: Could it be that the software feature came fitted from factory but because you don't have the option, an OTA update automatically disabled it?

No. That panel is basically a picture frame that houses 2 screens behind it. When the screens are 10.4” the just increase the black borders that frame them.

I just ordered an E450 sedan with the Premium Package. The dealer told me that recent cars coming in were just missing the wireless charger and hands-free access trunk opener. Won't know until April, when it's delivered. I can live with those 2 items missing, but not if the wide-screen support is missing.

I received confirmation that my All Terrain wagon was built yesterday Jan. 19th. The dealer said it has already been given a shipping date and should be here in the U.S. the second or third week of February. It took 3 full months from placing my order to actual production,
Fortunately, is has the correct 12.3" screens. Mercedes made no deletions of any options.

Congrats in the new wagon! They really are awesome to drive. Three months lead time isn't actually too bad. I ordered mine in February 2021. Received delivery of it on October 29th of 2021. So I'd say you are doing really well with this turnaround given how hampered global supply chains are right now.

I hope you enjoy it once you get it.

That’s great! I ordered in October as well; was supposed to be built right before the holidays and is now showing a build date sometime next month.

I believe all the cars have the dual 12.3" screen: the problem is not the physical screen, but the images on the screen which others have reported to be only 70% of the screen and information is missing.. When your car arrives, best to check that the images fill up the screen and that information on prior year's models are there.

The cars come with the same size trim (frame) around the screens, but the screen size under the trim (frame) could be 10 inches if the 12.3" screens aren't available. When the screen is 10" the gloss black border is simply made larger so the screens fit seamlessly in the existing size trim piece. At least that is what appears to be the way cars are delivered when the 12.3" screen delete occurs. I am certainly open to being wrong, but I don't think this is a chip/processing power issue that cannot support the 12.3" screen. I genuinely believe they are unable to supply the larger screen so this is the workaround.

Screen size is 28 X 6. Images are smaller.

Important when you pick up car not to just look at physical size of the screen, but the size of the images.

As I previously posted with pictures, I believe the actual physical size of the screen is 28" X 6". See post #40.

A 28" screen will accommodate two images, each 12.3" which is what I have on my 2019 E450: Again see post #40.with images.

Because of the chip shortages, the two images instead of each being 12.3 inches are 10 inches, a decrease of 25%. The 10 inch images do not fill the screen the way the 12.3 images do. There is more black around the images - think of watching on a large TV screen a movie with black bars at the top and bottom. Additionally, because of the chip shortage, information previously shown in the screen is missing.

If you go to posts #53 and #54 you will note that the physical screen is 28 X 6, the same as on my 2019, but the images are substantially smaller and information is missing.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no shortage of 28" X 6" screens, only chips which produce the full 12.3 images on the screens. Without those chips the images are only 10 inches instead of 12.3 inches and information is missing.

28" x 6"?

You like to post these things . Cool. Just don't expect anyone to believe you. Sorry.

But, having said that I'll play this game. Ok, if the screen is that size why would they (before the chip shortage) divide it into 2 very separate 12" visual screens, instead of making it seamlessly one continuous screen?. Ok, I'll answer for you (I'm getting to know you).

It's the chips. They do it. The chips determine everything, and there's a shortage. How's that?

But I don't think this is it at all. I believe it's two separate 12" screens normally, and now they are smaller physically. I may be wrong, who knows. Just what I'm going with.

There are 2 separate lcd screens behind the glass cover, NOT a single lcd screen.

Have no ideal what you are writing (talking) about.

The size of the screen is verified in my post #40, 28 X 6.. The images are 12.4 inches. The images in posts #53 and #54 show the exact same size screen, 28 X 6, but images 25% smaller, 10 inches instead of 12.3 as on my screen.
