Should I lease a 2022 E53 or pay $160k for a used 2021 E63S?
Currently in a dilemma.
Part of me says to lease a new E53 with the exact spec I want but lose the V8 and fun driveability (sp?)
the other part says pay the ****ing ridiculous markup and buy a used E63s and have the V8 but not the exact spec I want.
I found an E63s with 700 miles on it for $165k before warranty options and delivery. So realistically I’m looking at over $170k to get it to me. There’s also a few more options with higher mileage in the $140k range. I’ve even looked at some 2020’s in the 10-15k mileage range for $110-130k but I’m not sure if I wanna buy an AMG with that many miles on it
Money isn’t really an issue and I don’t wanna miss a chance at having a super low mileage car that’s the last of its kind. At the same time though… the inner “I grew up poor” in me is wanting to punch myself for considering paying $170k for a car, especially when I could’ve gotten it a ton cheaper last year.
EDIT: went with the E63! It’s blue 🤮. Gonna get it wrapped as soon as I can cause I’ve never liked blue cars. I still can’t believe I’m paying $170k for a car that isn’t EXACTLY how I want it but.. it’s the last V8 and I have one life so fk it. It should be here in a week or so

One thing to consider is how many miles you're driving these days. For most people I know, the number of miles driven in 2020 and 2021 was a small fraction of what they drove pre-pandemic. It seems to me that makes leasing a bad idea, If you purchase the car, at least it can be yours for a very long time — if new variants of Covid continue to pop up as many virologists believe they might, it could take you 20 years or more to put 100K on the clock (yeah, I know, that's an almost worst-case scenario).

Have you driven both?
Big premium for a used car with less sophisticated powertrain and two more cylinders.
Especially since many of us are betting we see the E63 again in 2023...despite internet heresay, Mercedes has not canceled the E63 (or G63).

I wouldn't pay that much for a used sedan or wagon. And I want nothing to do with hybrid or electric boost. Full gasoline engine or all electric motors for me.

I will admit to being a fan of the E53 after having driven a couple of them for some miles. The engine / hybrid system is just quite smooth, and delivers not only good fuel mileage, but also a very nice, useable, torque curve. If you intend to keep the vehicle for a longer time, I would lean to the E53. If you like the immediate torque of the V8, go with the E63. IMO, get what you want spec wise if you intend to keep the car around. Otherwise, go with the seat of your pants and get the one you enjoy, and only you can determine that, as well as how you intend to use the vehicle. Good news is you have options!

I too agree! As long as what you pick is something you enjoy, then you know you went with the right option.

Good suggestion and I am glad you enjoy the E 53 but I want to add if OP consider the E 53 for the long term (especially if keeping after warranty) other than some countries promising 8 years of warranty on the battery (please check with your dealership and confirm in writing), it will be costly to replace when failed and the E 63s without the mild hybrid technology has less things that can fail.

I am sorry that it seems like I made the decision more difficult. To be honest, if you always liked the V8 growl then V8 is for you, another thing is if you love to track your vehicle V8 is a good option but the E 53 is fun on the track too because it is lighter. Sigh.... I am so sorry to make it even harder with this, honestly not my intention

Fair enough, you got a valid point. I forgot to subject the cost of the car especially after the ADM. As for fuel economy, I wasn't the one who mentioned that.

That is one hell of a markup. Personally, I'd wait for the inflated prices to drop back to normal. GL and welcome to the forums man.

I would take the V8. With the changes in automotive technology it is a pure statement of what an ICE car can be. The mild hybrid is a phase looking for a problem.

Almost the same ...but not.
I was all set to order a C63s Sedan in early 2019. I came across a 2018 E43 in the same color combo I wanted for the C, and all the options I would have gotten plus more. They were discounting it about $17k IIRC which made the cost about equal to the C, so I got he E43 instead.
While is is really a nice car - if I had a dime for every time Ive thought I should have gotten the V8...I'd have a lot of dimes. A.lot.of.dimes....Plus I just dont need a car this large, we dont have any kids.
Good for you! I wish I had a V8

It is great I agree but when you are using the engine, you have the weight of the battery and the motors but when you are using the electric mode, you have the weight of the internal combustion engine. A big compromise but like what you said, still worth it.
