Coupe bonnet on sedan

Hi guys,

As the title states, has anyone tried swapping out their sedan bonnet with a coupe bonnet that has the two fins?

Would it be a simple swap (besides the obvious transfer of all hinges, latches, and the inner cover)?

Thanks!

I believe the coupe's hood dimensions are different but I could be wrong. Your best bet might actually be a facelift E-sedan hood which too have the power domes you want.
Another perhaps possible option would be a pre-facelift E 53 sedan hood.

If you are going after the 2-fin look, there are these AMG styled bonnets which are designed to fit W213 E-class non-AMG sedan.
Eg
https://www.carpartstuning.com/front...63/6000939-10/

https://m.made-in-china.com/product/...793049162.html

These are just examples that I easily found. You might want to search in this direction.
As for W213 coupe's bonnet fitting into W213 sedan, I suggest searching in the same direction.
That is, if you find some aftermarket bonnets that are advertised to fit both sedan and coupe, then this is a good indication. But, I also doubt a coupe's bonnet would fit a sedan.

So, I have connected with a Chinese vendor on Aliexpress that makes E53/E63 style bonnets for non-AMG E-class.

Communication is somewhat difficult but it seems that the vendor is saying that the hood dimensions for E class sedans and coupes are the same as his product will fit both sedans and coupes. His product shows installation photos on a sedan and I confirmed that it is his product on the picture on his aliexpress page.

Now, I would much rather purchase a used OEM coupe bonnet than a Chinese bonnet, if I can confirm that the dimensions of the coupe bonnet is the same as the sedan's. I have visited the local MB dealership parts and of course the parts guy shrugs and don't want to help a guy out.

In that case, your safer bet might really be a facelift sedan hood on your pre-facelift sedan.

Only if I can get the dimensions of both somehow…. Any thoughts?

Perhaps the dimensions are available through EPC but if not, I am disappointed to hear that your local dealership parts department isn't willing to help out, have you had a chance to try a different dealership?

I guess if you are going the OEM route, there should be some sort of return policy if it does end up not fitting, hopefully (confirm first though).

So, to give everyone an update, I ordered a 2019 E53 sedan hood (part number 230 880 01 00 64) and ready to test fit in about 2 weeks.

MB part websites do not list the particular hood compatible with W213 E300 sedans. However my family friend who own a body shop, which many local MB and Porsche dealerships outsource body work to, says the particular hood should fit perfect without an issue. We did compare the E53 hood we received and my hood on the car and the holes and dimensions line up.

I will make sure to report back here in about 2-3 weeks with the results.

I have been making small charges to make my E300 to resemble an E53 (Chinese diamond grill, OEM lower side grills with satin chrome inserts, Chinese lower grill winglets, Chinese rear diffuser with satin chrome trim with quad exhausts. Don't worry, I am not slapping on a fake AMG badge anywhere and I am keeping my E300 badge with pride). Once everything is done, I will post pictures here.

Very nice transformation. Love the look. Drive in style!

Did you have the body shop paint the hood? Or did it come pre-painted when ordered? Thanks!

Thank you. The body shop painted it for me. The hood comes primered (matte black/gray stuff).
