Hi everyone,

I have a E300 2018 model, when you change gear to D or R it will show that it changed on the cluster but the car won't move, they told me it needs to be programed.
The garage had to move it so they towed the car for around 5 meters while the gear is on P, after that the tires was freely moving as if the gear was on N.

So I have two questions,
1. Does the justification of it needs to be programmed makes sense ?!
2. Does the towing as explained can cause any damage to the transmission ?!

I don't even know where to start..

Was there a problem with the car??
Was the gear changed to D or R when the engine was running? And the car won't move? Or.. the Engine was OFF and someone tried to move it while in D or R?
And.. what needs to be programmed? The Trans?

Lastly? Someone tried to tow the car while in P? Are they nuts? I would never let anyone do that.

 

It is a salvage car, but the damage have nothing to do with the transmission.

When you change gear to D or R while the car is running it doesn’t move.

The car was in the paint booth and they had to move it so there was no other option !

 

SO engine running and put it into DRIVE and it will not move.
Put it into REVERSE and it does not move...

I Say ya may have a tranny issue or missing a driveshaft. un less brakes all corroded to hell
