Not a W213, but yes, passenger side next to the rear view mirror is typically the most reliable spot. Some models have metallized windshields, not sure if the W213 has that, but if so then this spot is one of usually two that have a cut out to allow the signal to get through. I think the other one is the lower left corner drive-side. As shown below I still have a transponder, but technically I could remove it and just go with the license plate. I only really keep the transponder in case I use an express lane and have to select the number of occupants. In reality I have yet to use an express lane outside of when it's free.

Red square? If the car has a metallized windshield then it might be a sticker to show the exact area where there is no metal, otherwise it can be hard to see. You have to place it within that square if the windshield is metalized.
