How to make ECO the default mode

In my previous MB's, I detested ECO mode, however I find it the best mode in my 2021 E450 wagon. I went to the Dyanamic settings and chose ECO as the primary mode but the car always starts in COMFORT mode. Am I missing a step or is it not possible?

there's a setting in the menu where you can have a pop-up when you start the car, asking you if you want to continue to use the last drive program.
(If you don't "answer" it, it will go back to C.)

but there's no possibility to have it permanently on eco

The only way is to purchase a OBD dongle, and it will change the setting to ECO every time you start. There are a couple different vendors.

I've just programmed myself to buckle up, and the flip the switch.

I do find that when I'm in my wife's truck or a rental, my hand doesn't quite know what to do after buckling up.

I use a custom setting in the Dynamic mode and would like this setting to be my default setting.

Can you be more precise where the pop up is so that I can make my personal setting the default setting.

Many thanks!

My car is a 2019 E450.

Presently what I do is to start the car, which starts in comfort mode and use the dynamic switch to put the car into individual mode. This is no "big deal" but would love to have the car start in individual mode instead of comfort mode.

Can you help?

Thanks.

The 2019 doesn't have this feature. That page of the manual is for the 2021.
The only way on the 2019 is the OBD dongle.

ECO Mode permanent default

If ECO Dynamic Select Mode is the most fuel efficient mode then why doesn't Mercedes make it a user selectable permanent default mode?

Q. If ECO Dynamic Select Mode is the most fuel efficient mode then why doesn't Mercedes make it a user selectable permanent default mode?

A. Because it's as annoying as hell!

Another fan of ECO mode for the AT wagon here. Engine response seems no different than in the default, and I don't mind it shutting off when not on the throttle; the stop/start integration is seamless while in motion. It's part of what makes this a cutting-edge ICE drivetrain. (That said, gas mileage has continued to disappoint.)

IMO the best part about ECO is the suspension setting. The shocks stay in Comfort, yet the springs lower for better aerodynamics...which yields less harshness than Sport over sharp road imperfections, and better body control than the default. Can't get that combo in any other drive setting, or Individual. Downside is you have to settle for the light and lifeless Comfort steering.

But, yes, I would like the drive mode to default to the last setting. The pop-up is a poor workaround in the UI; when it comes up varies by 2-8 seconds...often behind the backup camera image...and it only stays up for about two seconds, which is often not long enough.

I agree, , Logic dictates that the car remains in the last mode used

Or, instead of buying the Belarus dongle, get it for free with BenzNinja

RJ Automotive did this for my car. First time user it costs a little extra to buy their dongle, then they remote program it. Auto start the last dynamic select mode worked well on my 2021 E350 until my last dealer visit. The dealer updated software and I lost the programming. RJ will reprogram for free, I just need to setup an appointment. There is another thread where I detail my experience with active cruise control retrofit by them. I'm a happy customer.

Nicely, the prices are posted on their website so you know what to expect.
