Oncoming traffic alert while backing up?

What is everyone’s experience with the backup alerts with oncoming traffic?

in my wife’s Ford it always audibly alerts her of oncoming traffic while backing up. Almost from a house away…

since I have had this car (2019 model) I notice the alerts are lackluster and spotty if that.

all parking sensors work fine while pulling into the garage it’s just that if I’m backing out of my driveway and there is oncoming traffic on the road I don’t get any alerts (maybe a little triangle in command or low beep but nothing like the parking sensors while pulling in my garage that sounds like a bomb is about to explode beeping from all angles)

In my wife’s Ford Edge it alerts her as cars are driving down the road and she is backing up almost a house away.

I am not sure if maybe this system is so intelligent that it knows I am testing it or if there’s an issue. It’s also hard to test it without scaring oncoming traffic.

just looking for input on the sensitivity of others…

The Mercedes proximity sensors are programmed so that it starts with a settle warning when the object or the car is far away, as the object or the car get closer, the warning will increase in volume.

Like you my wife has a Ford Edge and the back up sensors are wonderful.

Why not try backing out of your driveway and have your wife approach you in her Ford and see when your Mercedes starts to beep? No chance of collision and you will know exactly when and how loud your back up system works.

if you are talking strictly on the cross traffic alert when backing out, I think it works fine. You will get the triangle warning on the backup camera on whichever side the car is coming, and if you proceed, the car will brake automatically. As im on the computer, I cannot remember when the audible warnings begin to sound, but Im sure they are there.

The rear cross traffic alert is much better on my wife’s 17 Acura MDX. As soon as her car is put in reverse, if a car is approaching, it starts beeping. On my C300 , it has to be moving and I think it beeps once. Much better in her car.

Mine starts beeping with the approaching cross traffic 2-3 houses down the block from my driveway.

yes, I have since been reminded in my car that it does make it sound. Its not a beep, its a solid tone.

The only thing I dislike about this system is that it will auto brake when Im trying to parallel park, because cars are still going forward next to me. I have had it brake countless times for no reason, scaring me and my passengers.

Mine always beeps as I back out of my garage if traffic is approaching from either direction, a particularly good feature as there's a block wall to my right that runs all the way to the sidewalk, compromising the view down the street. It also warns me of pedestrians on the sidewalk and bikes in the street.

I don't recall hearing much from the cross traffic warning but I was pulling out of a parking space and a motorcycle came around the corner that I never saw. My car just shut down, stopped immediately and I couldnt move it if I tried. All due to the cross traffic sensor working.

In addition to beeping loudly, my car slams on the brakes — HARD — when there's an oncoming hazard that I failed to see as I'm backing out of my driveway.
