My warranty expires in December and I have to decide to get or not get an extended warranty so your input will be helpful.
Thanks in advance.

I had always thought it was best to wait until the factory warranty was about to end before taking an extended warranty.

Reason to buy now is that I'm buying out my lease and one can not buy a MB ELW if not the original owner so buying now allows purchase of the MB factory ELW
Best you call both Jeff and Rafael 1'st hand for quotes
PS: I did same thing on my 2018 SL550 just before I bought out the lease on that one in 2020.....worked out great

I too bought out my lease back in December, 2019 450 4matic, and when the factory warranty expires in December 2022, that is when I plan to buy the extended lease.
I anticipate no problems and saw no reason to buy an extended warranty before the expiration of my lease.
Like you, I am not the first owner: the first owner is MBFS: but that makes no difference.

Last week I received a letter from my dealer, Mercedes Benz of South Bay in Torrance, CA), offering to sell me a "vehicle protection plan" for my 2018 E400 Coupe (which just yesterday turned over 13,000 miles — I haven't been driving much since Covid hit in March 2020).
I called and spoke with the agency's "Vehicle Protection Specialist." His initial quote for a policy providing full coverage for five years or 48,000 miles with a $100 deductible per incident, including a free loaner and towing, was $6,853.00 (that's $1,370.60 per year or $114.22/month). As I hemmed and hawed, he offered to cut it to $5,853.00 for five years due to the low mileage on the clock ($1,170.60 per year). I passed.
