To bring this back on topic, it is my opinion that, with all of the aforementioned premium car manufacturers committed to a 100% EVs by 2030, and maybe half of the new car buying public buying EVs by 2030, there will be a very strong market for used ICE luxury vehicles in the near term.

People make financial decisions under the guise of two reasons and two reasons only. Every financial decision falls under one of the two. One is financial, and the other is emotional.

While today may be a time of non-negotiable. That will change. When a person buys a car, they know, for the most part, that car will lose somewhere between 25% to, maybe, 50% of it's purchase price within three to four years. Yet, people buy the car anyway. Now, perhaps that too is not true today, but that too will change. The used car market is not an efficient market. People may believe it is, but it is not. It might be today, but that too will change. I've always felt that while MB may have "held it's value" better than any other car, the market is sometimes like the market for lakefront property in the Poconos, LOL.

So my mom is actually looking at the car now and then I am going to go with her on Monday to finalize. Apparently, they are pulling out a $10k premium charge on her, but telling her they're trying to get her down to the MSRP. That's to be expected I guess.

Bought my used CPO 2017 E400 wagon (34,000 miles) last year. Had to replace my Totaled a5 Audi cabriolet (engine damaged from road debris)
1st wagons are hard to come by.
2nd it couldn't be black.
3rd couldn't have a Plano roof.
So, I was very limited on choice but called 8 dealers and offered them 95% of what they were asking - 7 said thanks but no thanks but 1 said yes and then I asked for the CPPO to be extended - they split the cost with me. Dealer was over 500 miles away but when there are only 24 CPO wagons (non-AMG 63's) for sale nationally 500 miles was kind of close.
Understand that this wasn't a new car, but dealer's rarely discount ANY wagon because there are so few.
would NEVER pay dealer's "Premium" and even MSRP would be a struggle for me to accept
Wish your mom the best - good luck

I have a personal aversion to paying a cent over MSRP. Never done that in any of my purchases. If I were you, I would insist on sticking to MSRP.

Yeah, I am trying to convince her to walk away if they don't get rid of the premium. Afterall, her S500 is older, but it only has 129k on it. So she still could do the needed repairs on that and keep moving.

I think they are trying to get SOME premium over MSRP, and 10K is a starting shot, with the intend to settle at around 5K premium. So I’d call and make sure that there’s NO premium, even before heading to the dealership.

Do not Pay premium as I am sure you could find something else to drive from one of the other manufacturers without paying premium.
Let em know you will walk away as they are having a sale @ Dealership across the road or next door.

So as an update, I am at the dealership with my mom now. They waived the $10k premium and took off $1k off of the MSRP just from my mom pleading about being 80 years old and retired, lol.
