Which battery for my 2019 E450 Wagon

Hey all - I am getting the 'battery critical' warning on my wagon - I am guessing the age of the car, the fact that we don't drive it much and the first cold days of winter are lining up to tell me I need a battery.

Doesn't appear to be a difficult driveway swap - does anyone know which battery size I should get? Lots of the online 'battery finders' list the E300, but not the E450 - and I am not sure if they use the same battery.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Try a trickle chargers first maybe?
If I don't drive my 2019 E-450 for 9-10 days I get battery warnings and low voltage as well, and the battery was new last year.
The MB Service Advisor said this is "normal" but remember to lock the car when not in use.
I bought a 1 amp charger for $29.95 on Amazon and hook it up occasionally and all is good.
(Yet annoying)

Any automotive web site will tell you what battery fits. I would pay extra and get an absorbed glass mat ("AGM") battery. Advance Auto carries a Die Hard AGM battery but all of them are likely made by the same manufacturer and sold under different labels. I have an AGM battery in one of my cars that is over 6 years old and still going strong. In my Porsche, I have an AGM battery that is over 10 years old. Since this car sits for many weeks without use, I always connect it to a battery maintainer.

You can compare prices on Advance Auto, Auto Zone, Pep Boys and Interstate Batteries.

Yes, AGM is a must, they are also standard on the E-450s, as far as I know.
As a long time boat captain I have seen the difference in performance and longevity between various batteries and AGMs come out on top.
Look for the Deka brand but they also make batteries for other companies and slap their labels on, West Marine, Costco, etc.
(On boats we abuse batteries more than on cars: Sit for anchor several days and run your fridge, your lights, your stereo etc, run them down, charge them up,
rinse and repeat week after week, year after year)
This trickle charger is what I use, highly recommended with a selectable mode for every battery type:

I too have a E450, which is a 2019: My battery is still fine. I agree before shelling out a couple of hundred dollars on a new battery, invest in a good trickle charger. I recommend the charges from CTEK who makes the chargers for MB, Porsche - in a nutshell all major car manufacturers who put their name on it and double the price.

FWIW: each fall and spring, even though I regularly drive my car, about 9,000 miles a year, I put an old standard, no gimmick basic Sears battery charger on my battery. It automatically turns off when the batter is at full charge. Overnight my battery is "topped off" and it is good to go for the winter.

As to what battery: I found it very difficult to find the battery for the E450 - very easy for the E300/350. From my investigation I concluded that it is the same battery for both.

Hope this helps!

You guys were right - I take the cover off the battery area only to discover that the battery as a 7/21 sticker on it - which I assume is the date it was made. I bought it as a CPO car in Sept 2021, so it must have had a battery for some reason before it was traded. Given the relative newness of the battery, I am going to invest in a trickle charger. Thanks, all.

OP, the threshold for MB to consider a battery in "critical charge" state was actually 80% ish if I remember correctly so it doesn't take much to get it to that charge level, not driving much or driving a lot but short distances, frequent use of auto start-stop on top of driving short distances really puts a strain on the battery.
While waiting for your trickle charger to arrive, you may consider putting your car in standby mode, here is where it is located: https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...cdc89b9208.jpg

i just had the “critical battery” warning. MB says to drive it for 29-30 minutes. I drive for an hour on the expressway and it was fine.

I use to get that a lot with my 2019 E450 Convertible but not much at all on my 2019 E450 Wagon. It almost made me wonder if the battery was bad or there was a voltage leak somewhere on the Cabrio. I'd have to put a maintainer on the batt if the car was left sitting for more than 3 days. The wagon I can leave sitting for a month and it's still fine.
