Got carjacked; deciding on a replacement E-class
In October, I got carjacked at knifepoint up near the Portland airport while waiting for my daughter's delayed plane to land, and I ended up watching my 2016 E-350 drive off with people who felt they needed it more than I did. (Hey, at least they've got great taste in cars, amirite?)
I'm looking for a replacement in the form of a 2017 or 2018 E-class, and I'm discovering that in these years, the engine is now a 3.0-liter four-banger, rather than the zippy six-cylinder I previously had. Will I be disappointed in the four-cylinder variant? I really, really liked how fast the 3.5-liter was. It always had more power to give.
Thanks in advance, and remember to keep your doors locked.

So sorry about your car and your experience. At least the carjackers probably walked away from the accident without too much injury. Wait, maybe that’s not fortunate…
the 2.0 four cylinder probably won’t feel as peppy at higher speeds, but around town the torque is great (same as the old V6), so it might feel quick enough. Otherwise, if you can find a 400, I’d highly recommend.

Couldn't you call MB and have them activate Mbrace or whatever and have them locate the car right after you were carjacked? Also didn't 2014+ all have collision prevention? I guess if you swerve into a pole it probably can only do so much. The 2016 was the last year for the 302hp V6. After that you went to a turbo if you wanted a V6. It's either the E400 or E450 if you want a six cylinder with more than 300hp. Check the brochures and see what the specs were. Don't forget to use the vin decoder if you want to find one with some options. I like the driver assistance package with the lighting package at a minimum and then maybe parktronic, pano roof, real leather etc but it's hard to find one really loaded.

Situational awareness!
E300 is about the same to me as the older V6, but if you want a little more power, E400 which retains the 6 and adds turbos. Then you decide between the 400 vs 43/53 if budget and style fits your needs.

IMO, if you can afford the E400/E450 go for it. You will not be disappointed. I have posted numerous times, and again my opinion, the E300/350 is peppy but not powerful. I never race from a stop light, but I like the smooth delivery of the 6 and the quietness at speed and at idle. I think, again my opinion, the 2 liter makes a lot of sense in the C Class. To complete the E Class, go with the 6. A luxury car deserves a 6!
As you note below I have the lighting package, Premium package, heated steering wheel (I use my car for skiing), driver assist and parking: the parking gives you the 360 degree cameras and beeping when you park. In 4 years I have yet to use the self parking feature.
Glad they only took your car and you were not injured!
Hope this helps.

With EVs taking over soon, all this talk about which internal combustion engine is smoother and quieter is futile since EV is much smoother and quieter than any ICE.

I bought a used 2021 E350 (my 2014 was totaled). Pickup is better than my 2014 E350 because of the 9-speed, but the transmission clunks downshifting from 3-2. Also, the controls (touch pads) are terrible.
If I could afford to buy a new one, I'd first test drive other luxury cars. If I still liked Merc, I'd get a 2023 E450, or a used 2020 E400 with COMAND rather than touch pads.

Sorry to hear they didn't recover the thief's bloody corpse after he flew through the windshield and an electrical transformer fell on his head. Man I hate thieves...
