2022 E450 US Oil weight

For the life on me I can’t locate the recommended oil weight. It seems like 0-30. Anyone know the manual is silent.

My dealer told me they use Mobil 1 weighted at 0-40 for my 2018 E400.

Latest MB guidance is to use the 229.xx spec which means you can use various wts. as long as it meets the 229.xx spec for that weight. My owner's manual just references the 229.xx spec and no wt. recomendation.

My 2020 E450 uses MB 229.5, which includes 5W40 full synthetic. Mobil 1 is a great choice, however, for my recent oil change, I was able to get MB brand motor oil directly from Miami MB dealer at a very competitive price.

Hate to burst your bubble: Mercedes does not have a branded oil. In all likelihood it is Mobil 1 repackaged as Mercedes oil.

Hope you did not pay a "premium" for the Mercedes name!

Yes, I realize MB is not in the business of manufacturing engine oil, it is in fact manufactured by another high-quality manufacturer. I used the MB branded oil and filter to avoid any issues with the dealer down the road if I needed any warranty work done on the car as I still have another year of factory warranty remaining. And, as I already indicated above, I got a great deal on it from the east coast dealer which actually was less than what Costco was asking for Mobil 1 at the time of purchase. Even with the shipping cost I ended up paying less than $90 for 7 quarts, plug washer and MB branded filter.

Well Walmart is $29.97 for a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 0w40 so about $42 for 7 quarts of oil. Costo is now at $44 for 6 quarts so of course Walmart being much larger can still undercut then. You can get a Mann filter and plug, washer from Rockauto for about $8.52 so that'd be about a tad over $50 with shipping. Or you can get the oil change kit from FCPEuro which has a lifetime warranty on all the parts they sell including oil for $118.74 and all you do is pay return shipping for a lifetime supply of oil/oil filters, plug, washer. Also pretty much no manufacturer will invalidate the warranty due to not using OEM parts due to Magnuson-Moss warranty act. They just want you to think it so you buy overpriced OEM stuff but never really heard of anyone saying their claim was denied because of non MB parts or work not done at the dealer.

wrong you need a low ash oil as the engine has particulate filter like a diesel engine. People should do some research without commenting blindly

0w20 or 5w30

Two jugs of Mobil 1 5-30 from Walmart and OEM filter from the dealer is under $100 once per year or 10,000 mi. If you can't afford the right stuff, how do you even pay for gas?

that’s not correct oil for the engine he has
only 0w30 or 5w30 meets spec anc me be ultra low ash content as the i6 has a particulate filter

Mobil 1 ESP X2 is the only Mobil 1 product that meets the MB spec 229.71. It comes in 0w-20.
At Walmart it costs $12.99 per quart with discounts for case purchases..
At Auto Zone it costs $11.49 per quart.

It is Mobil 1 ESP X2 @ $59.99:

see:
Amazon Amazon

POI: For many, many years starting with my 2016 E350, Mobil 1, not Mobil 1 ESP X2 has been used by my Mercedes dealer.

Mobil 1 ESP X2 did not come to market until 2016/2017.

This might just be another case of "overkill": In Germany cars are driven at a much higher rate of speed than in the rest of the world. So for those conditions ESP X2 might be required, just as brake fluid when driving 130 mph and you have rapid braking might have to be changed every two years. Similarly cars in Germany might be driven faster than 130 mph, hence V rated instead of H rated tires are installed.

Just my thoughts and $.02.

BTW, I have never heard of engine failure caused by using Mobil 1, or for that matter any synthetic oil vs. ESP X2. As long as the oil is changed regularly, I believe you are protected and well within any safety margin.

OK, it was your description of 10w-30 that was wrong. Mobil1 ESP X2 is only available as 0w-20. Your link was correct.
Using the wrong oil can invalidate a warranty if the dealer is not in a forgiving mood.

Actually NO:

For the warranty to be invalidated, the dealer must show that the cause of failure was the direct, not indirect, use of Mobil or other synthetic oil, instead of Mobil 1 ESPX2.

As I posted, I have never heard of a engine failure because of using Mobil 1 or any other synthetic oil, as long as the oil is changed on a regular basis.

The chances of any dealer proving that the cause of an engine failure was the use of Mobil 1 is slim to non and slim has already left town.

In the '60's I lived in a very cold area when I experienced an engine failure at startup by a thrown a rod. The dealer used the wrong oil during routine maintenance. The temperature was near -30°F and the oil as thick as molasses. I got a new engine paid for by the dealer. It was a decade before Mobil 1 was invented. The car was a Pontiac with an I-8 engine.

YUP:

Had a similar experience in the late 1960's while I was in law school in Syracuse: 33 days temps never went above 32 and 10 straight days where temps never went above zero.

Back to the point: As I posted the chances of using Mobil 1 voiding the warranty are slim to non and slim has already left town.
