E CLASS WAGON INTERIOR MIRROR RATTLE
I'd like to share with you the following issue:
I've got an annoying rattle in my 2017 S-213 220d. which drives me nuts. Initially thought it was coming from the sunglasses holder, whis is reported by users to cause some noise, but found out it is the rear view mirror itself.
If i gently press my finger on, it stops. I've even put a chunk of black rubber within the housing and the roof cover where it hangs out, but no big improvement. The odd vibration has not gone.
Seems there's kind of a "lose" part inside the mirror, between the glass and the housing, which vibrates depending on the roughness of the road. The prob is it rattles mostly through all the usual speed range, so between 60 and +120 km/h, from normal country roads without potholes, up to highway.
I run on 20' AMG wheels, but i believe this vibration should not happen because the rims are straight and balanced, tyres are new and the car goes smooth (considering the AMG Line settings, of course). Must say the rattle has been always there since I grabbed the Merc, 2 years ago.
I've been told that, if the mirror is removed for fxing or replacement, the front cameras must be reset, this being something that cannot be done at home. Is it true?
If anyone, folks, has experienced this rattle trouble, and knows how to solve it, your comments are much appreciated.
Greetings from Spain. L.
Before removing, would like to know if the mirror can be opened to check inside or if it would be a direct replacement.
I also thought about trying to tighten the mirror base, but the fact is that it is not loose but hard when you move it by hand.
Think will try to open the seam with some plastic tool or credit card for inspection, before dismantling anything else.
The bug is there, right behind the glass. Gently pressing my finger on the edge, the noise disappears. I'll keep you posted with he outcome.
Abusing your trust..... would it be possible to have the factory alignment data with the 20" wheels to compare with the values of workshop machine and see if they are the same.
Again, a million thanks.
