AMG Steering wheel swap?
Anyone do one? I see a lot of them on ebay and other sites but have also read that it's difficult to get it coded so all buttons work correct. Any tips or guidance?

you can also upgrade yourself to a 2020 wheel which is the most common one however you will need a decoder for the buttons to function. plenty of companies support that upgrade. can reach out to rucarbon or carismo.
I own rucarbon and i am good friends with the guys at carismo. it really comes down to which company you prefer. there are others out there that can provide you with what you are looking for. if a 2020 wheel is what you are looking for feel free to shoot me a pm i have a couple on hand.
but in terms of the easiest and cheapest route itll be a w213 amg wheel.you can scoop one up on ebay for a couple hundred and an airbag for 3-500 just make sure it is for an amg. if you find a wheel that already has the buttons installed you want to make sure the layout is identical to yours. iv seen some cars accept the different style buttons and other cars dont. its really a 50/50; safest option hands down is just reuse what you know works 100%
Good luck!

its really depends on what wheel you are looking to run. if you are looking at the same style wheel you currently have but the amg version its very easy. the buttons are the same non amg to amg. you would just transfer your oem buttons along with the control module. however you will need a new airbag as the amg bag is different.

To give more details, I have a 2020 e450 wagon and want to do the AMG wheel from either e53/e63. If I purchase a wheel from you or your competition (haha!) would it be plug and play or do I need to buy a decoder? Still a bit confused obviously.
tia!

If I wanted to do a very basic wheel, all perforated leather, would that change pricing? Also, I'm assuming that the price quoted includes all buttons, the middle aluminum piece, airbag and paddle shifters?
Thanks again!

Do you have one that is all-perforated leather (no cf) and gray-stitched AMG wheel with airbag and paddles included?

Not to hijack someone else's thread but are you able to upgrade a post facelift wheel to add heat? Std or wood and leather. Not sure who would order the warmth and comfort pkg with out a heated steering wheel but that is what the original owner of mine did.

however in theory you can add heat but you’ll need all the required control modules and programming if yours didn’t come with it. I’m not sure what goes into it but there are definitely threads on here that’ll explain the swap

its a straight forward swap; id probably avoid the dealer unless you want to pay $150+ or whatever their hourly rate is
any shop can do it.

@lthlc63 and others, what if my build sheet says I have 443 steering wheel heater, but the L6H steering wheel I'm optioned for has U88 AMG drive unit buttons? Can I get a steering heel that is set up for heating AND has U88 buttons, if my build sheet says the car has the heater unit in the car? Usually the dealer and factory say it's one or the other, but I've heard ordering a custom one it's possible to get both if your car already has the hardware for it. Am I wrong?

I’ll only add a heating element on wheels I’m building for close friends. But on the business end, heating element is not an option.
