Tire blow...Goodyear Eagle Sport All-Season RunOnFlat

Here's what came on the car...Goodyear Eagle Sport All-Season RunOnFlat... Size: 245/45R18 100H XL...MOExtended (XL)...They seem like good tires. I don't drive aggressively, I can't say I am sacrificing one thing for another, or they are too loud, etc.

I think these are going to cost me about $350 each (not including mounting and balancing) -- and I was going to replace two (in the front). My rear tires have 50,000 miles on them, and they are in good shape, have strong tread left, not eaten up at all, etc. I thought I'd replace the rear in the coming months. Should I do all four now?

That said -- is this a good tire? Are there better options? Better value? I do want to stick with RunFlats. Thank you very much in advance!

WOW!

50,000 miles on the rear and still tread left! That is pretty amazing.

I had to replace my Pirelli P7 Centurato RF at about 30,000 miles because of bubbles in the sidewalls. Like you I have the 18" wheels. I like them. Without the bubbles I would have anticipated about 40,000 but certainly not 50,000 miles.

I do not drive my E450 hard at all.

Pretty hard to disagree with any tire that you got 50,000 miles from.

I was surprised myself. Just had the B service and he said the fronts should be replaced (salesmanship) and the rears "looked good actually" (were his words). No, I don't drive my car hard at all. I also don't drive fast or aggressively. Sounds like I should replace all four. Thanks!

I had a set of those GY runflats on one of my BMW 5 series. Horrible tire as far as noise, construction, snow /wet performance and tread life. There are better options out there as far as replacement tires is concerned. Michelin Primacy, Pilot AS or the Conti WSW are the top 3 in my opinion.

I never rely on what a salesmen says. Assuming no tire rot, tires should be replaced when the tread is below 3/32 of an inch. There are also tread wear bars on your tires.

To be doubly sure, suggest a tire gauge. Quite inexpensive and they work!

Got it...thanks...I can't say I have any real experience with Michelin, never had Pilot nor know anything about them, but always had good luck/experience with Continental. I forgot which model, but I had Continentals on my last E-class, and I think I had them on my last ML as well. Thanks again!

Me neither! LOL. On the other hand, when I am completely in the dark, I have to find someone else's opinion, experience, insight and rely on that; as opposed to salesmanship! LOL. When I got the car, I rotated tires religiously. So at the B service they said there was no rot, no chewed up, and the rears still had 5/32's. Getting four would make like easier moving forward. Right thing to do. Thanks.
