Just curious, has the protective clear shipping tape been removed?

Protective film .. take a second look

If not, use stainless steel cleaner and then polish and clean the material off. Also ok to use CLR to remove this if it's rust draining from something else ...

great I literally figured it out, I started scraping it trying to find the mysterious plastic film and it was plastic I was scraping into, there just be some sort of metal topper (veneer) that sticks on top of this piece of plastic and it must have fallen off in the winter when someone opened the door.. guess I need to buy a new one

what the hell

What does one with the "metal topper" look like? Why can't you just remove this film with goo be gone and be done with it after then polishing the steel

I guess this is only plastic with a very thin metal/chrome veneer glued ontop, I just removed it and it was double sided taped to the car with 2 anchors into the steel, the piece in the picture is all plastic there is a metal veneer that goes on top and looks identical to what you see in the picture

guess I will find out how much a new one costs.

Mercedes only the best I guess a full one piece aluminum door sill was to expensive to manufacture

Cost cutting at its best. If Mercedes could save $2 on a sill plate, take that times a million, that could be one of the ceo’s bonus.

This is the part number 2056800035 they have 2 versions Merc and AMG. Luckily it looks like it is listed at MBUSA FOR $30 so probably looking around the same in Canada so replacement won’t be *that* expensive.

https://mbparts.mbusa.com/oem-parts/...ate-2056800035

Still shocking they could not source an all metal part….

Interesting, I’ll just pay for it.

I honestly don’t have time for their bull**** and waste 8 hours of my day and rearrange my life for them to tell me I shut the door wrong or they don’t cover this because it’s cosmetic.

the dealers in my areas are all bull****

This would've been a good excuse to upgrade to the OEM illuminated sills on both sides, had them on my W205 but my W213 didn't come with them and i miss them! Looks like OP already replaced his part though

I was thinking the same thing but I do not think the illuminated sill plates are pre-wired and there might be an additional module needed.

I actually just bought some OEM illuminated sills myself after that post. I think it is just one ribbon cable that connects to a wiring harness in the floor. Will update once I receive mine!
