Has anyone replaced their pinstons/wrist pins in their M274 engines? If so, which brand have you used and is it worth it? I've seen a couple of people post about Wossner forged pistons and wrist pins but never have I seen someone actually install them. I understand Wossner is one of the best manufacturers that produce pistons but would like to know if anyone has had any experience with them swapping any parts out or has any input in regards to them.
I also don't know how legit $500 for four pistons and wrist pins is but if it's legit it's not a bad price to pay to upgrade and protect the M274 horror's I've been seeing and reading.
Yes but remember that the price of the pistons, wrist pins, etc is a small part of the cost. Labour is about 5-7 thousand dollars. If you plan on keeping your car for a long long time (8-10 years) then it might not be a bad idea.
2023 GLE450, 2021 E350 / Used to drive: 2019 E300, 2021 + 2020 GLE350, 2019 E450 Wagon(s), 2017 E300
While the failure is a painful and beyond costly - do we have data on how prevalent it is? Also - I wonder about the consistent use of premium fuel as protecting against the piston/wrist pin and head gasket issues. You definitely hear about it - just wonder if there is any pattern or steps to prevent (short of replacement of pistons and rings as you suggest above...)

I use nothing but Shell 93 octane and change the oil every 5000 miles and I’m going to have the spark plugs replaced every 30,000 miles.

I am with you on that Deutsche, I am taking the same route to try and head it off. I had my GLE350 in recently for an oil change well before the Service A was due and the service advisor tried to talk me out of it. Only when I told him I was still coming back for the Service A on time did he agree to change it "early."
I understand the cost. I was just looking at long term reliability. But seeing as how my engine has 130,000 miles on it already and no issues (other than the turbo going out) it might be a safer bet to just let it die out when it does. I see used engines for about 5,000-8,000 dollars that might be a cheaper option than having the pistons replaced or the work done.
