Restored my Designo Macchiato Beige Steering Wheel

My 2018 E400 Wagon has a Designo interior with a Macchiato Beige colored steering wheel. I bought the car used, as a CPO, 16 months ago. Had I bought it new I likely would have chosen a different interior though the Designo is very nice. The steering wheel had a few dirty spots when I got the car, but not over the top. I decided to clean the wheel to get rid of the dirty spots and I was too aggressive and some of the color came off. There is the possibility the previous owner covered up the dirt and wear with a weak coat of dye and my cleaning removed that, but that is moot. With the wheel looking terrible, I had choices:
  1. Live with it. It's beige wheel, it's going to get dirty, deal with it.
  2. Buy a new wheel to replace this worn one though it will cost $$$ and take time. I know lots of folks change their steering wheel themselves, but I'm not one of those folks
  3. Restore the wheel by sending it out or do it myself. I figured if I screwed this option up, option 2 is totally available
After watching numerous YouTube videos from professionals and amateurs alike I figured I can do it. I bought some dye from Seat Doctors (https://www.seatdoctors.com/) and carefully followed directions from them and the YouTubers.

The color match from Seat Doctors was incredible. You provide them your VIN number and they look up your car's colors. They shipped me my color within a couple of days. I understand other vendors do a similar thing with VIN-matching colors. Anyhow, I kind of amazed myself with the outcome. You'll have no trouble detecting which photos are the before/after photos.

Looks fantastic! Colors like that and even ash interior are just a paint to keep clean.

Looks great. For future persons that clean their steering wheels or other interior bits, NEVER use 91% alcohol as it will remove the ink from buttons as well as leather.

What a nice transformation, considering buying some myself to clean up some discoloration on my side bolster. Curious to see how this holds up over time.
