Camshaft cover gone c238 2018 e220 coupe amg line
Please guys help me out. So my car is e220d. Running perfect till two weeks ago it sounded loud but drove normally. Then I noticed mpg was lower on motorway journey I do every day of 27 miles twice. Then it stopped going into manual mode. Went onto YouTube and found a way to reset gearbox and it does work it’s starts going into manual again. Right now it’s staying in manual till I give a little push, by push I men’s just a little not the beans. Then it stays it auto mode put changes gear sluggishly. Took it to MB specialist they said I need a new camshaft cover at a cost of around £1500-£1700. Something to do with the bolts sometimes break but Mercedes told me they provide 29 new bolts when you buy a new one from them for £650 odd. I can buy a reconditioned one with 2 year warranty for £200. They refuse to fit it in case it’s not correct but I’ve confirmed with seller it is the correct cover.
after the long intro my question is can I not be repaired? I take it the gaskets are leaking which cost about £5 but I could be wrong. Someone please tell me there’s a way to do this affordable I just can’t afford it right now going through a costly divorce and having zero funds to throw at the car which I would have done a year ago.
