Post Warranty Scheduled Service Plan
I recently purchased a 2017 E300 sedan with 49,600 miles.
CarFax showed scheduled maintenance has been with MB dealers during warranty period.
Please recommend a scheduled service plan…hoping to maintain car to last at least until 150-200K miles.
Also, when should my first service begin under my ownership (maybe 54-55K for at least oil change?)
And nearly 8 years later (now that it’s almost 2025), are there any known or fairly common maintenance issues found with this E-class vintage (W213)?
Thank you!

I can't speak to the full service plan but change your oil and filter every 5K and your engine should last. The manufacturer's recommended change interval is the bare minimum to get you through the warranty period and not to make the engine last 200K.

At 50,000 miles:
- Change engine air filter. I just did mine and took less than 15 minutes. You can go on Amazon and get filters from Frame for about $10/$12 up to almost $40 for Hahn.
- Change oil and filter: the recommended change interval is one year or 10K miles which ever comes first. Others like L1Wolf change oil + filter more frequently. The duration is up to you.
- Spark plugs: Mercedes recommends 5 years of 50K miles, whichever comes first. Other manufactures 100K miles between plug changes. I am approaching 50K miles: my mpg is the same now as when the car was new, there is no hesitation and starting is instant. I will wait before I change plugs until I notice a deterioration in either performance, starting or mpg. Changing is up to you.
- Tires: If your tires are original they will probably need replacement
- Transmission fluid: Again Mercedes recommends 5 years of 50K miles. This is up to you
- If the battery is original, like tires will probably have to be replaced. Before doing so, have it tested
- Oil + filter
- Brake fluid change: Mercedes recommends every 2 years or 20K miles, whichever comes first. My indy shop thinks that is totally unnecessary and every 40K miles he feels is more than sufficient. I agree. When to change is up to you.
- Cabin filter: there are two: one in the engine compartment very easy to do yourself, one under the dash not so easy to do. I changed the one in the engine compartment. I had my Indy shop do the one under the dash. When I examined it, it was very clean. In the future I will probably change the filter in the engine every 20K miles, but the one under the dash every 40K miles.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for all the replies.
Are there any known or fairly common maintenance issues that MB World members have found with this specific E-class year and model (2017 for W213)?

Also the thermostat usually gets stuck open between 70,000-90,000 miles. Both would be a good preventative maintenance item to replace when you buy the car since getting to the thermostat entails the same work as it would be to get to the crankcase ventilation lines and hoses.
Other than that, I would say just change the oil and spark plugs regularly and you'll be okay. Good luck!

Yeah, not my favorite YouTuber, but he drives home the point about manufacturers using parts to get the buyer through the warranty period, not to build a car that lasts 200,000 miles or more. He hits the nail on the head at around 18 minutes when he talks about extended maintenance intervals.
