Experience with clearing active crash data from ECU?
Hey friends,
Have you dealt before with a crashed Mercedes that cannot execute "Enabling engine start after crash event"? No matter how many times I try, it keeps failing.
Car is 2017 E220d, front hit, airbags and seatbelts engaged.
My MRD1 ECU & FCW213 Active Brake Assist show B1C3200.
SRS ORC213 module shows several active errors for the deployed airbags and seatbelts. (Clearing errors won't remove active ones obviously)
What should be the action plan please. I would like to get the engine started before I work on fixing airbags and seatbelts. Do you know how I could clear the crash event from ECU and is it really the reason that causes Enabling engine start to fail?
The screenshot is to show that apparently H relay for circuit 50 is blown, I'm ordering that one in the meantime, but that cannot cause Enabling engine start to fail, or can it?
2015 SL400 (M276 Turbo), 2014 C350 Sport (M276 NA), 2004 SL500 (M113), 2004 Audi TT225 (BEA)
Have you gone to the Tests tab to see if there are any tests that might require the Airbags to be fixed first?
What is your full model designation: 213.XXX?

I remember seeing a long list a tests in engine ECU, but I haven't tried any as they seemed to me like for an engine that isn't running well but can start. (I'm still a Xentry noob btw)

Thanks!
You might need XENTRY or a scanner capable of Mercedes codes to re-enable start.
The screenshot is from Xentry, as I load N3/9 - Motor electronics 'MRD1', I get the prompt for "Enabling engine start after crash event" but it keeps failing... I'm suspecting it's not working because of the active errors in SRS (airbags/seatbelts).
There is B1C3200 stored in module.

The prerequisite for testing is NO fault codes. So, the airbags may need to be addressed first. Have the deployed bags been removed yet? Not sure if there is a way to jumper the connector. That's beyond my expertise. You may want to reach out to @BenzNinja . Well worth getting a BenzNinja Club membership.

Sorry about that, the image didn't load previously, now I see it. I am not sure that you need to clear the SRS fault though but good troubleshooting step.
The deployed airbags haven't been removed yet, I think some folks put resistors to make the ecu think those airbags were replaced. I never knew you could simulate a Xentry session like that.

No worries, I'm sure there is a way to clear active SRS codes without actually replacing the deployed airbags, but I cannot find it.

There is a function called XENTRY Simulation that lets you try to recreate conditions and simulate behavior. They aren't always exactly what you want, but still a good way to learn what you can do.
@JettaRed are you able to load the "Special procedures" tab of SRS/ECU please? Mine was password protected, I wonder if there is anything useful there.

That's the moments that you figure out that you don't have BenzNinja

Here's the tab. However, if there is a procedure that requires communicating with Mercedes online servers, you will need BenzNinja to do it since he has the license.
Thank you @JettaRed , yeah that's the adaptation that kept failing for me, someone had mentioned that weak battery could cause such failure, I'll have to give it a new try with a new battery.
@BenzNinja Are you familiar with the issue that I'm dealing with? Have you seen the Teach-in process consistently failing before?
Removing stored DTCs was possible, but the active ones like the one I had mentioned B1C3200 persist.
Thank you very much for the very clear instructions, yes after clicking that button it tries the procedure but in 2-3s it comes back with the error that the procedure wasn't successful, I forget the exact wording. I will try to record it next time I check on the car, but I'm suspecting the weak battery may have something to do with it.

In that case, check the aux battery as well. Don't remember if the W213 sedan have it or if it is the same spot as some models (under the glovebox).

I believe there is one for the start&stop but I really hope it doesn't affect the Enabling engine start procedure. I'm just gonna try with a brand new Varta for now.
