I recently got this carplay aa wireless decixe and couldn't be happier.. it has a customizable view and you can watch videos, and use it simply like a mobile device.. without touch, the track pad on the e300 works perfectly as a mouse.. if anyone wants details let me know.. i also have google fotos on it..

Yes, it connects. Stays connected.. and i did some good tweaks (disabled the wireless bluetooth to phone pairing - because this causes some audio issues)... full screen waze, full screen (google maps - but the windows version), full screen any navigation you want you can download from playstore...
it connects automatically.. nothing serious but the box is always connected to the front usb... i use it completely as a phone too.. inserted a sim card.. and gets data etc.. so if someone calls me, i pick it up from that phone (second number - you can setup call forwarding on your regular device) or just use google voice like me..
it is very flexible.
so many software they give such as satellites monitoring.. the only part is the audio - at times gets weird while interacting with multiple apps, but i mainly use it for netflix / prime videos / google photos, and listening to youtube music / watching too...
I got something like that... high end for smooth video etc..
I am pretty sure it will work seamlessly with iPhone because it converts AA to Carplay and renders.... so Carplay for iphone must be native... Am also thinking the bluetooth pairing issues won't occur to you (this was designed with iphone in mind i believe)
