R744 air con issues s213

I have an S213 E220d 4matic. The aircon has stopped working, so I took it to the dealer for attention. It was pressure tested and regassed, which lasted for all off a wheel. Was regassed again and again it only lasted for a week. On the third attempt, the dealer advised there was a leak, and would need a new compressor. This was one of a few cars that used the co2 gas R744 and the quote for replacing the compressor is£4200!! I am in Glasgow and am unable to find anyone else who deals with this gas. I am looking to see if anyone has an R744 system that has had issues, and recommendations of any non-Mercedes garages that can fix this at a reasonable price. I am in Glasgow but will travel! TIA

Sorry to hear that. With an AC system, the leak could be anywhere - could be a pinhole in the condenser, on the aluminium tubing, in the evaporator, or a compressor failure - so unless you use a dye and test it you're not likely to find it. If its a compressor failure it would likely make noises due to debris, and any debris in the AC system is catastrophic to it, so it may require replacing the entire condenser, piping and coils. I doubt your case is as severe.

I've lost faith in dealers, and since you didn't mention if they did a leak test at all, and that you've been to them 3 times, It doesn't sound like they're treating you fairly. There are many independent air con specialists, and Mercedes specialists around - they should be able to do a leak test for you. I get my air con serviced here down under at a Merc Vito and Sprinter specialist garage. May be worth trying with a local specialist that deals with MB Vitos and Sprinters for help.

I follow SPR Autos in Stockport (Manchester) on Youtube. But recently they've said that they aren't taking any new customers and they have a 12 week customer backlog.

my conditioning never worked properly from when I got the car now it’s completely stopped working. It turns out the compressor has a leak. The quote I’ve had so far is £3484.80 from A approved Mercedes repair garage in Essex. they are only charging £638.40 to fit the compressor they buy the compressor from Mercedes-Benz which is costing £2846.80 mercedes-Benz have now stopped using this but it seems like we are all now paying the price
