e300 was rear ended -looking for advice

My beautiful 2017 e300 was just rear ended with pretty bad damage. It’s at a body shop and I’m waiting for an adjuster to look at it . Probably better if they total it and pay me what it’s worth . Whether they total it or not I’m looking for a new E class and may have to settle for what’s in stock. I ‘m looking at the E350 and want the pinnacle package , massaging seats, and some other features. The closest I’ve found is a loaded model which lists for $81,000 discounted by $5000 to $76000 plus sales tax. It has 20” AMG wheels, projection logo, lighted grill, winter package, super screen package-all options I don’t need or want-but it also has everything I do
want and the $5000 discount seems good and I
may be able to negotiate a little more . Would appreciate any input/advice. Thanks in
advance!

Sorry to hear about your E300.

If the check the forums discounts are in the rage of 7% to 10%. With a loaded vehicle the dealer profit margin increases and the better the opportunity for a higher discount.

Hope this helps

The worst time to buy a car is in situations such as yours. One either over pay or end up with options of colors they do not want. If possible, take your time and the right car will come along. You can always buy a gap car until you find the one you want.

I agree that it’s not the best time to buy a new car…but the other options aren’t good. Rentals are expensive. A gap car would mean a probable money hit when I sell or trade it. My Mercedes dealer says a custom order wouldn’t arrive until July. Buying a car off the lot seems like the best option. There are several E class cars available locally-350 and 450-which are pretty close to what I would order, although not exact. I also wanted to compare the BMW 530/540 but local dealers have none in stock.

Usually a custom order, at least in my experience is 8 to 10 weeks. That puts you into mid/end April, certainly May. July seems a bit off.

I would suggest going to other dealers: What I usually do is configure the car the way I want it, being specific as possible with codes if available and email the internet manager of as many dealers in my area as possible.

It is one email sent to 15 dealers, there are 15 within 50 miles: I live in the NY Metro area on Long Island. There is also a Costco dealer here on Long Island. Another excellent source. Takes less than an hour. I then sit back and wait for them to call and email me.

Thanks. I’ve done the same thing (although there aren’t as many dealers here in the S.F. Bay
area). Back to your original point about bad timing—I’m limited to dealers who have an acceptable car in stock or are willing to arrange a transfer from another dealer. Fortunately, there are a few cars in stock at different local dealers that would be OK. Also, they’re configured differently so it’s a little harder to negotiate ..but still possible.
