mos2 vs teflon (Dura lube) vs Ceratec
Hey all,
I have never really been an additive kind of guy but after watching a documentary on Dupont and 3M it sparked a thought. Since Dupont and 3M had this hands in creating Teflon, I remember seeing all the ads on Dura Lube which had Teflon in it. While I was looking up more information I am across Liquid Moly mos2 and Liquid Ceratec (Ceramic Lubricant).
Has anyone used or continue to use any of these products in their engine oil? Does anyone use fuel additives to help clean their injectors?
I am aware that Mercedes says that additives should not be used but I was surprised when I saw that they used an additive when my W205 was in for services.

You should never use any additives in your oil. Fuel additives are okay, but not all of them do what they claim. Use top tier fuel which have detergents to clean the engine intake and optionally use a fuel additive every 6 to 12 months.

Never any oil additives. IIRC the owner's manual advises against any additives in general. Changes to oil viscosity/ flashpoint/ shear strength is not worth the risk compared to short oil change intervals to keep the engine happy.
However I use LiquiMoly Jectron once a year to supplement the RON98 / 93 AKI fuel as a fuel system cleaner. It probably doesn't make any difference but I get a nice placebo out of it. $13 a can is way cheaper than the stealership upselling an ultrasonic injector clean every year.

The oil manufacturers specifically really hate when you adulterate their oil. Big oil runs the car companies, so everybody downstream is going to tell you no.
Used engine oil with depleted viscosity modifiers, TBN, and anti-wear additives due to thermal breakdown/mechanical wear is way more harmful than a lack of lubricity. We think of oil as lubricant so stuff doesn't grind together but its actaully what holds your engine together, maintains compression, and realistically most parts will never touch each other if the oil is doing a good job, it's actually the oil that holds all the horsepower in, pulls the heat out of the engine into the coolant, and allows you to even start the car in the morning because you can't produce combustion without ring seal. Once the oil fails, nothing on earth is going to help you from mechanical wear ie damage.
I don't like the idea of more stuff clogging my oil filter up but again LM is a pretty serious oil company. I'd give it a try once and come up with your own thoughts. I've used their lifter additive in the past and I swear it saved a C63 so I sell it in the shop.
