Reset NOX Sensor after Replacement
I have a W213 E400 wagon. the engine management light came on, so I scanned the car with an OBD tool and found a fault related to the left-side NOx sensor.
Because the genuine part is extremely expensive, I purchased an OEM NOx sensor from a third-party seller who confirmed compatibility and had positive reviews. I lifted the car, removed the old sensor (see image below — it was dirty), and installed the new one.
However, the engine management light remains on, which suggests the new sensor doesn't work.
My question: after replacing a NOx sensor on this model, is it mandatory to perform a “NOx reset” or adaptation using an advanced diagnostic tool for the ECU to recognize the new sensor?
P.S. I experimented by cleaning the old sensor tip with WD-40 and reinstalling it. The fault disappeared but returned a few days later. Does this suggest the ECU stores sensor IDs or learned values that require reset/relearning after replacement?
Thanks in advance.
