Looks like the thread went into a different direction. Just answering a few points for OP. Yes, the tires govern the speed limit in that depending on what tires are fitted from the factory, the electronic speed limiter is set accordingly. For the US market, many models come with all-season MOE tires. MOE is Mercedes speak for run-flat. Those typically come at lower speed ratings such as H or whatever, so the electronic speed limiter is set to 130 mph at the factory. If the car comes fitted with summer performance tires, then the speed limit is set to 155 mph, because those tires have a higher speed rating. On AMGs the speed limits are set even higher to 180 mph and above with (Y) speed rated tires and AMG Drivers Package which is typically standard in the US. Yes the parenthesis matter. Y and (Y) is not the same.

Over the years I have seen so many stories about a Michelin Z or Y not being the same as a Sumitomo Z or Y or a Han****tireChina Z or Y. I think that by and large most of us here are on Michelin or Bridgestone with a few outliers. BUT...when I see an older E (like my 2011) more often than not they have what I consider junk tires on them....even the AMGs

here in Germany (and most of Europe) we have to have snow tires on during the winter months. I only buy Bridgestone Blizzaks for winter tires, but as of late Michelin and pirelli have been absolutely terrible quality in my opinion.

since in Germany we’re allowed to have all season winter rated tires, I exclusively only buy Continental all season tires. When I’m doing 130 on the autobahn and when it’s snowing, they’re always performing well.

[QUOTE=Triol;9267805]The Germans view automobiles and driving to be like a profession, and treat them as such with strict laws concerning driving on the Autobahn. Plus, you gotta have some money just to get a driver’s license. Cars are a sense of pride. All of that is based on my experience in the late 80s. I’m sure everything has gone to crap now.[/QUOTE

you’d be surprised how much has changed in Germany and Austria. You’d think that people actually go to driving school instead of buying their drivers license from under the table. It’s gotten far worse.

I do not miss the drivers in Connecticut at all (or most of New England that is, especially Massachusetts). However, in Germany I’m seeing a lot more of the same driving behaviors that I’ve observed in the USA. A lot of road rage and reckless driving in the past couple of years.

@Billyismyname The 20-30 somethings are all just mad (and lazy)....seriously, you need to comprehend how important their time is. Took over two hours of begging to get their parents to give them some money for a soy frappaalatte and to borrow the car. It is not easy being an aromantic bitter young person who has had EVERYTHING stolen form them causing their total lack of desire for these things called work and success. I have seen it from Florida to Iceland to Cyprus and all over the USA. Every waking moment is another agonizing moment of prepetual victimhood....

Natural communication amongst friends. And, I agree - the Boomers, to me had it "best" on this planet. Hard work would yeild amazing results and lifestyles. There as pride and dilligence in almost every aspect in life. Oh, and more over - personal repsonsibility.

You must be in a very different societal circle. My daughter's circle and my grand niece's circle in the Tampa Bay area are all go-getters. A few are military officers, but most are graduates that live in a condo and have substantial employment ... and have very fast cars.

@ua549 Very different demographic. Oddly, Ocala has more millionares/billionaires than any other region of Florida including Miami (I know, CRAZY). A ton of old old money. Then again, Ocala also had Lee Farkas who stole $2.9 billion. Good friend of mine lives in his old house...its amazing.

Here, the kids who are 20-30 who we meet - in general looking for entry level positions in a medical facility are LAZY. The worst are the ones who have a degree in something useless and think they are work $XXXX not $X. Just because they have a degree (and massive debt). There are a few schools who graduate wicked smart kids. In general, they are not coming to us for $19-$30/hr jobs.

The percentage of the folks under 30 who are seeming to excel will be directly related to the desireability of the living area - for instance, we spend quite a bit of time in the condo on Clearwater - FAR more intelligent folks there than you are going to find at the Square in Ocala. But, we love living in Ocala as it is easy to get around....and we are only an hour from Tampa, Orlando, Jax......

As someone who was impatient and angry well before Covid, I think the root cause is due to the internet and having a smartphone. Having all this information at your fingertips reforms your neural processes to become accustomed to instant gratification, and you become angry when reality doesn't meet your unrealistically high expectations.

But Covid was certainly the catalyst. You lock people down in their homes for two years with nothing but the internet for entertainment and its no surprise they emerge as crack addicts.

Also depends on where you were during COVID. Here in Germany we couldn't do anything. Not sure if it was worse in Austria or here, but germany was an absolute sh*t show. Where I am in Germany (Hamburg) everything was shut down. We Couldn't even go outside properly.
