Top Speed??

I have 2019 E450 wagon. Had a chance to floor it, twice. At 128 mph power dropped off. Is that because of my H rated tires (130mph). ??

I was also curious about this since I have a 2022 E450. The car would go up to 250kmh or 155 mph in Germany. They have a limiter on it even in Germany. As I gave a google it sounds like our US versions are limited to a 130 mph.

Lmao, no the tires won’t limit your speed. It’s due to the electronic limiter in the ECU. But you should be very thankful that it did, because playing near the tire’s speed rating is very risky, especially as a tire ages.

If you foresee yourself going anywhere near that speed again, I would highly recommend you upgrade to some tires with better speed ratings first. And even more so if you decide to raise or remove the electronic speed limiter.

Your life depends upon your tires. I always by tires with a V (240 km/h), W (270 km/h) or Y (300 km/h) speed index and a load index of 101 or higher.
In the USA the V rating at 149 mph is more than adequate for street use. In the EU I buy Y rated tires.

Not to sound like an old grandfather, but as someone who has a heavy foot (and loves speed for that matter), I would strongly advise against doing those kinds of speeds. In the US, you can be jailed for going over 20+ MPH. There are no active roadways where you can even do 100+ MPH safely other than raceways or tracks.

one nail, cracked wheel, animal, etc, could be the difference of being able to stop on a dime doing 75 mph, vs doing 100 mph and flipping the car.

Back in the day I used to drive through Montana when there was no speed limit.
In 1999 when a 75 mph speed limit went into effect, the highway fatally rate actually increased by over 40%.
So much for slower being safer!

This is no different than changing the gun laws, the drinking laws and on and on. MADD and political pundits (including insurance companies) are who got the BAC limit down to 1 then .08. Heck, the reality is a VERY large percentage of good alcholics can not function as a human at less than 1.x (not with out detoxing). These nanny laws have not saved a single life - not one. They sure have runied a few hundred thousand.

Still waiting to see what all goes down with our new Super Speeder laws in FL. What these idiots do not comprehend is that criminals in stolen cars or who are running from a crime DO NOT CARE if the car they are in gets towed. This is even more of an issue as driving into Orlando now (from the North) is pretty much every single car going 98mph bumper to bumper in cars that can be VERY safe at 120+.

Hell, we cant even get a high speed trail with out Karens going nuts....

a great example would be the auto bahn in Germany. With strict rules (like moving out of the left lane after passing) and using mandatory blinkers, I think need have less fatality rates in the states to. Oh, and not to mention putting down the phone.

The cars might be able to handle those speeds, but the people driving them are dumber than bricks. Distracted, drunk or drugged, these people are undisciplined. They don’t use their turn signals, check their mirrors or blind spots. They camp in left lanes or will tailgate you. You add in unrestricted speeds and it’ll be absolute chaos.

Plus, they insist on doing so with their improperly maintained cars.

I think camping in the left lane and tailgating causes 50%+ of the accidents. You should see how people in Connecticut drive. If you're doing 80 in the passing lane, they're doing 120 and flashing their highbeams at you a mile away. and when they catch up to you, they usually superglue their front bumper to your rear. It's an accident waiting to happen, 24/7.

The interstate highways in Montana have very few vehicles, there is no congestion, etc.
The last time I was there in 2023 two of the kids wanted to play the license plate game of states.
The game started OK leaving the capital city (population 32k), but ended with "wake me when you see a car?"
We saw another car about once every 10 miles.

You’re right about that! Although the bigger issue are the New Yorkers camped in the left lane going 68 and refusing to move over.

We've got a lot of New Yorkers in Florida along with our natives that make driving very hazardous and insurance rates sky high.

I believe it. I saw a lady today doing her eye lashes while at a red light, and the light turned green for 15 seconds before she took off again. After 30 seconds I passed her on the freeway and she was STILL doing her eye lashes. That’s dedication 😂

MB’s of all kinds.
Thee car come from the factory limited to 130mph. They can be tuned and the tune removes the limiter. Use only a reputable tuner like Renntech or Kleemann. Before any of that. Upgrade those tires!

As an attorney the story of how Governor Racicot and the Montana State Supreme Court conspired to end their state's distinction as the only no speed limit state is quite fascinating.

Honestly it makes more sense to end speed limits in Montana than it does in Connecticut for example. In Montana from what heard, has a lot of flat straight highway. I understand there are the rocky/mountainous parts, but who in their right mind would do 130MPH+ in twists and turns like those.

In CT/New England in general, there is nowhere to do that kind of speed safely. Especially with the overwhelming influx of traffic recently.

In 2015, Montana finally raised their numerical speed limit to 80 -- the second highest speed limit in the country. But insiders say that after 1995 when the federal speed limit law was repealed, Montana elites were a bit embarrassed by their status as having no limit. The governor pushed multiple times to get the law repealed and the legislature refused. So cleverly his AG worked to get the Supreme Court of Montana to strike it down as unconstitutional. They figured that once it was struck down the state legislature would agree to a numerical limit -- which they did at the time to 75 mph in rural areas.
