One of the reason I didn't consider buying the FL-W213 is the horizontal tail light design. Just doesn't work for me... I prefer the vertical PFL-W213 hence driving a 2020 E. Looking at the W214 with similar horizontal tail light (yes, similar to the S-class) I am no fan... but I do like the front fascia... aggressive enough, despite that black ring around the grill. Like I said earlier, I'd slap on an AMG panamericana grill and be done. But can I live with that rear tail light design? It is a deal-breaker for me... I can safely say, it will not grow on me... no bueno.

Looks like the long lived E class model will die on a low note. Copying Infinite’s light designs and 3 point star Mercedes logo for tail lights just won’t cut it. The materials quality have been on a decline for a while now but recently, it looks like the E class’s design team also got their budget cut. Personally, I think a gas electric E Class should be around longer than 6 years, which is when Mercedes predicted it will end E Class production.

What a bunch of phoney spin. This will most probably be the best E-Class ever and certainly the most advanced technically. I can hardly wait to dump my CLS53 for one of these babies. I just want a great car. Who cares about minor things like tail light with stars.

One prominent design feature that highlights the connection between tradition and modernity is the black panel connecting the radiator grille to the headlamps. Reminiscent of the Mercedes-EQ models, this glossy black insert adds a touch of contemporary flair. The radiator grille itself showcases a progressive, three-dimensional design and can be optionally equipped with an illuminated surround across all lines. You can check a related guide here https://truecarexpert.com/guide/bmw-...es-comparison/
Inside the vehicle, the dashboard serves as a gateway to a digital experience. In models equipped with the optional front passenger screen, the MBUX Superscreen extends seamlessly to the central display, creating a large glass surface. The driver's field of vision features a high-resolution instrument cluster display that is visually distinct from the central screen. The main icons on the displays have been simplified and color-coded, mirroring smartphone tiles for a user-friendly interface.

BMW i5 Leaks Ahead of Unveiling
The i5 has leaked, the ICE G60 5er which will compete with the W214 should look fairly identical aside from some EV design bits.

Road and Track had some nice things to say about the last E class but most of their comments were on the technology. Sadly, nothing said about the build and material quality. Northing about superior craftsmanship and the history of the legionary E class itself.

The front end looks awkward. Too big and horizontal and with a massive front overhang, kind of like that obnoxious new XM suv. The front end’s proportions lead it to look like it belongs on an SUV and not a sleek sedan. And from the side it really looks nothing like a BMW. And the overall shape does look like they did angle the front and rear kind of weirdly to make it more aerodynamic, but while trying to retain a traditional 3 box design. Guess that’s a trade off for a shared platform. The end result is a shape that looks more like the new accord and less like a 5 series.

New Mercedes you can play Angry Birds on the screens.
New BMW you can drive around with pig snouts from Angry Birds on the front.
New ways they’re competing with each other.

Motortrend have some nice things to say about the W214. Good build quality remains but did not like the exterior design. What is up with the build in selfie camera and the disco ambient lights sync to your music?

I have the natural black ash, and I personally dislike that. Just a nasty dull, dark color. I wish it came with the burlwood or the brown ash wood. I bought the car anyway, since at the time, there were no other E-wagons available, and I was not willing to do a custom order and wait for months.

Trunk space has increased from 13.1 cubic feet to 19 cubic feet on the new model. Mercedes also promises slightly more front headroom and rear legroom. That's good, because the last-gen E-Class had roughly the same amount of space inside as the C-Class.
Interior space now should be similar to the LWB E Class that is sold in China. The trunk, an increase of almost 50%, is now right up there with the BMW 5 18.7 and more than the Audi A6, 13.7,Toyota Camry 15.1 and Honda Accord 16.7!
