They definitely didn't screw it up, probably one of the better looking new Bimmers. But I have to say it doesn't look anywhere near as good as the 6er it replaced. That car was almost perfect (the hood-line was one of its only style sins). The new 8GC is attractive, but looks bloated thanks to the soft body lines, and has a fat c-pillar imo.

I have not seen this latest 5 series GC, BMW managed to redesign a beautiful car and turn it into a awkward looking front end design. The latest generation of Beamers are more Mercedes like than some of the Mercedes out there. The ride is smooth and handles very well. Too bad the exterior designs are so radical and the interior design are so boring.

Thanks and I agree (I have a 2019 E450 Luxury Styling)
Hopefully in time the Luxury trim will come to the States:
If the new E Class is to be a baby S, instead of a bigger C, then the Luxury trim is a must!
Just my $.02.

If the W213 is any indication, there will be no luxury line. All photos on the MBUSA press release as well are AMG-Line only. For a car like the E-Class, which has been decreasing in sales due to the popularity of SUV’s, it is extremely unlikely that they will bring the luxury line to US dealers.

Cost is an issue when you have to agree with the supplier for X number of parts. The take rate in the US was really really low going back to the W212 refresh. I haven't had anyone ask about the option in years. If we had one in stock it almost always ended up in the loaner fleet since it was a harder car to sell. You couldn't get nice wheels with it and most customers thought it made the car look old fashioned.

Well the car has yet to be unveiled so that's what we need to wait for first. As is tradition, MBUSA's website will be late as always for the configurator. The 2024 GLE is already on the lot and still no configurator. You'll have better luck with MB Germany's website.

The E36 BMW M3 was not destined to come to the US, but they got so many letters from BMW Car Club members that BMW decided to bring the model to the US and it turned out to be a huge commercial success.

I am doubtful that a change will come. Mercedes isn’t losing sleep over offering the Luxury-Line in the US. Changing consumer tastes and an “older image” have pretty much made it a much lower seller.

I'm 37 years old. The reason why I have a Mercedes is because I want something more relaxed and luxurious for longer drives. I have a few BMW M cars for fun and a Lotus on order that I can drive when I want something more fun or athletic. The whole point of getting a Mercedes for me is to have something that is not as aggressive.
I realize I'm probably in the minority, but after driving many sporty sedans and dedicated sports cars, my preference has shifted to having a luxurious long distance cruiser, and more aggressive fun cars. Having one car to do it all is just too much of a compromise. I've driven an E39 M5 as a daily and a long distance warrior for 4 years and while I'd say that's probably gotten the balance between sport and luxury better than any other car I have driven, I'd rather drive my 2022 E450 on a long drive, and I'd rather drive my 98 E36 M3 in the canyons. Splitting the difference compromises too much. The E class should own the luxury segment and leave the sporty side to BMW, otherwise what differentiates them? (Okay fair enough, BMW's latest styling is enough to drive anyone away from the new 5 series)
