Did you put on your Blackvue? Is there a 12V socket in the front row?
I haven't put in the Blackvue yet. Not sure I will, but still thinking about it. There is a 12V socket up front but I would never use it. If I were to install the Blackvue or another camera, it would be hard wired as my last one was.

Talking to the dealership last week they mentioned the Dashcam storage is ideally a security camera storage device and not a general purpose data storage device. In particular they mentioned the always on, always overwriting nature of the Dashcam which can damage many general purposes devices like Flash and SSD drives in as little as 3-6 months. The Flash and SSD drives used as cam storage may not cause any error notifications right away, but can fail to record retrievable files quite early on because they are not designed for so many overwrites. As far as I can tell the recommended devices for dash cams are ones used for similar purposes like police body cams and security cameras. They use high endurance SD cards that are designed to be always writing and can withstand high temperatures - or so I read.

As such a good setup might be a high endurance MicroSD card inside a small SD card reader connected to your USB port. My next car (E53) has not been built yet, but when it arrives I will try this combo ($40 - 67):
  • microSD options I am considering (100,000 - 140,000 hours = 10 + years of use):
    • Samsung 256 GB High Endurance (140K hours use) MicroSD ($30):
      Amazon Amazon
    • SanDisk 256 GB Max Endurance (140K hours use) microSDXC ($42):
      Amazon Amazon
    • SanDisk 512 GB High Endurance (100K hours use) microSDXC ($48):
      Amazon Amazon
  • USB C microSD card reader ($10) which might turn out to be weak link if it can't sustain constant data transfer heat:
    Amazon Amazon
  • Optional: 90º adapter ($9) to minimize snagging on storage adapter when accessing other items in console (inspired by the W214 USB thread - thanks):

After only a few short months of use with a regular memory stick (Samsung 256k) in my dash cam, the notice popped up today that the memory device was no longer functional and I needed to change devices. And I don’t really drive a lot but it was already not rewritable.
I remembered this post from months ago and decided to take this advice. I ordered the referenced 512 SD card and reader. Hopefully this will last a lot longer.
Always thankful for the good advice on this forum..

2022 GLS 450 (X167)
This is what I got on my 2022 GLS 450 when the car was two weeks old. It is legit, and for some reason, if the dealer needs to reprogram the ECU, you can use the dongle again to program your vehicle.
It is not a gimmick. The ninja won't charge you less.
