Dashcam

Does anyone have a suggestion to have the dashcam start automatically each time you start the car?

Loop recording not working

I have a Uk 220D estate and although I have the option to set loop recordings it appears to not always record. Bit frustrating as you might forget to start recording each time you get in the car. Still experimenting with it to see if I can get it working. Otherwise it’s an excellent car

Can you share your findings regarding the settings to have the dashcam automatically start on each car start?

I have the following in my truck and works great in parking and driving mode; it automatically detects the mode. I switch it totally off when I park in my garage at home.

Dashcam: BlackVue DR970X-2CH LTE Plus with T-Mobile SIM Card, Blackvue Cloud Paid Service
Dashcam Backup Batteries: PowerCell 8 Dash Cam Battery Pack, Cellink NEO Extended Battery Pack

I opened the online owners manual in the car and search dashcam, and it had a link that brought me to the location. I would have to do it again to be able to describe it.

Were you logged into your profile when you enabled automatic loop recording? Mine doesn't automatically start until I log in.

Follow these steps to enable automatic loop recording.

Tap home and then go to Apps.

In Apps go to the Dashcam App

Tap the gear icon in Loop Recording

Enable Automatic Loop Recording

The next time you start the car and login with the profile used while enabling loop recording it will automatically start. You may get a message initially saying it was unable to start the camera. That is due to the profile not being logged in yet. Then your profile logs in either through facial recognition or by typing your pin and loop recording should auto start. It will display an annoying message each time about obeying the law when it comes to recording and I believe each time you cross a state line it will repeat that warning but I haven't crossed a state line so I can't confirm that.

Yes I am using my profile and it definitely is not working automatically, I am in the Uk and wonder if it’s something about privacy laws which can be restricted where and what you can record. Will try and contact Mercedes and get an answer.

Can you clarify please, are you saying you don't have menu to activate automatic recording or do you mean you have that menu but automatic recording still does not work even if you activate it from the menu?

I've understood automatic recording was not enabled for the UK market and expected the menu not being present at all (the manual covers features that are not available for all countries).

So I think this is what is the issue I live in the wrong country and for some crazy legal reason the car can’t automatically start recording. This is rather annoying as I am sure the time I need it I will have forgotten to start the it. I indeed do not have the Gear setting option that was shown in this thread. My next question is how do I move the Dashcam app to the top menu as currently it’s hidden in the Apps folder?

Have you tried to setup a routine to turn the dashcam on when the car is started.I did that before I found the setting and it worked.

In the Uk the lawyers have this covered by not having any option in routines for the Dashcam, I think the best option is to speak to the car, saying Switch on Dashcam appears to work, alternatively you can press the Dashcam icon on the top of the display.

Does the dashcam only use the front camera? Is there an option to record the rear view?

Yes only the front. There is no option to include the rear camera and no option to include sound either. The resolution is 1920x1280 at 30 fps. Included with the video is the date, time, speed, and lat/long position. In the car you can review footage from the dashcam and you can take photos while the car is in park using the front camera. For example, if you wanted to take a picture of something going on in front of you while you are not moving you can easily do that. As an integrated camera, it's not bad but not as good as many third party options out there. I would prefer if it included sound with an easy option to turn that off/on like my Blackvue did. And, having a rear camera view is a big miss in my book. Below are screen shots of video from my camera. You can make out most things but good luck reading a license place unless it's right in front of you and not moving very fast.

Day time shot while moving

Night time screen shot

Thanks for confirming the resolution glad to hear it is higher than previous models, that lens glare is pretty significant though can barely make out the plate of the vehicle in front, is it just the image that looks blurry?

It's a little blurrier in the still shot I posted verses the actual video. It's readable when I pause the video player. During the day it's better but only when the car is close can you read a license plate.

Thanks for the pictures. I expected MB to have done a good job to match its class, but this doesn't seem to be in line with Blackvue or similar.
Did you put on your Blackvue? Is there a 12V socket in the front row?
