Question New Software Download-RiderVU

Greetings: To my surprise, I had my first automatic over the air download since purchasing the auto on July 31, 2024. The software which is active under APP is called RideVU. Never heard of it. I searched and it is a video streaming enhancement. Anyone know how this operates behind the scenes?

Still waiting for the new software to fully activate Digital Lights in the first quarter 2025.

Also got this app today, probably that's the reason MBUX didn't respond on the way.

So far my car has been fine with no screen malfunctioning or other issues. I plan on keeping auto updates turned off as long as the car is performing properly. I figure if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. So much in the past I’ve seen updates screw things up at least with computers.

I had the RideVU app show up last Monday when I picked it up from the dealership. It was in for service to fix a defect in the bumper and deal with an issue I had where the emergency stop would repeatedly display a message that it was inoperative. It's an app to play movies. You have to load a mobile app and create an account on RideVU. Then you can watch movies in the car. There are a bunch of free movies but I found that the majority of them are either old, not popular, or both. Then you can buy or rent better movies but it's not cheap. Something like $5.99 to rent and $19.99 to buy each movie. I'm working from memory so those are not necessarily the correct costs but I remember saying NOT when seeing the price. I did play one of the free movies for a short while just to see how the quality was. It sounded great on the sound system and video quality was good. I used my phone as a hot spot as it requires internet. It only works on the center screen while in park. Didn't try the passenger screen, but I suspect it will work there too an will continue to work while driving. You can also load the app on multiple phones or tablets and play a movie on those screens. I think that is so people in the back seat can watch on their personal device as well. I'm not sure if it casts from the car so all the screens are in sync or uses some other way to do that but clearly that would be a goal or the sound would be wrong. Otherwise each person would need a headset and could be on a different movie. If that's the case, they could use any other streaming service. Ideally, instead of using a service like RideVU, you could use Netflix, YouTube TV, and any other streaming service you already pay for to watch content. I tried using YouTube TV in the Vivaldi browser that comes pre-loaded. It throws an error. I think Netflix worked in the browser but I can't remember. It would be best if they allowed you to load the native apps for those services just like RideVU.
