Comfort data and MBUX streaming music apps
I had ordered an E450 wagon and picked it up a couple weeks ago. I have not added the "comfort data volume" or done anything with subscriptions or a mercedes me account (although the dealer did set up an account). In the media section, I just added my Tidal account today and it streams music as expected. I had used Apple carplay previously with the car, so when setting Tidal up and testing it, I purposefully left my phone out of range in the house. I took a little drive to the store today, without my phone, and Tidal music streaming worked as expected. Interestingly, when I got back in the car at the store and attempted to play some music, it said it couldn't find my phone and asked me to connect it to a wifi network instead (it listed the Lowes customer wifi as an option!). I just hit the home button and carried on, but within a minute or so, Tidal music started streaming again.
Does anyone know if the music streaming (e.g., Tidal, Amazon Music) requires the "comfort data volume"? Based on my experience, I don't think it does (but maybe in my recently manufactured car it is enabled automatically at the VPC or dealer). What do you think?

If you are currently paying for one, you are wasting your money. You can cancel the paid plan and get the complementary one that has been available since February.

Actually, I did verify, but I forgot. Did a speed test with my phone both on the hot spot and just using 5G. Speed is not great but adequate for streaming video. Dont know what it would be like if you had several devices in the car connected to the hot spot and streaming video.

Have Data Radio and Streaming, but no Hotspot
My car is a 2023 and the previous owner must have paid to have much of the digital extras paid for a lifetime because pretty much all of them are active and workiing.
However, when I try to connect to the Hotspot, it tries to connect, but no data is moving. I suspect that my "free trial" is expired and I need to now register under my ownership to the T Mobile link from a previous poster to set up an account for $15/.mo?
