Interesting. I have the same option on digital extras. Wasn't there before. Clicking on the prompt to provide more data it tells you that you have to call. Maybe they are including a data plan since most of the features require it one way or another. I'll call tomorrow and see.

When the mercedes me app says it needs more information, it means it needs details about the data plan. I don't have a data plan, so this digital extra won't do anything for me. ‘That’s interesting because in the description it says “ activate your complimentary data plan”. I wonder if that is the correct answer or if the agent wasn’t aware of the update. Kinda disappointing tbh.
I got this email from support. The link explains it. I have not tried to register because it mentions a fee-based service. If it's free, then I would register.

I checked again today and it had a button to activate. I pressed it just to see. Didn't take a screen shot but did on processing screen. It specifically says at no additional cost. Haven't gone to the car yet so don't know if there is an actual data plan that is active.
Went and looked in the car and the data plan is active. All I did in the phone app was agree to the terms of service here.
Here is a picture of the data plan showing it's online. Always showed offline before. I tried opening the browser in the car and was able to open this site.
Looks to me like there’ll be a charge of $15/month. Maybe it’s just a free trial to start.
Did you see that in the link the 69GTO posted? I saw it too, but did not get that link when I went through the process in the app and it specifically says no additional charges. I guess I'll see, but I did not agree to any additional fees and Mercedes Me does not have my CC info to charge me. My guess is that they are making it free for a year and then they will want money for it to continue. The question becomes, will it be part of all the bundled extras or a separate fee. Time will tell. I'll keep this thread updated with any changes to my experience, but for now it appears I have a data plan and didn't pay anything extra.
Interestingly, I already pay for the 5G internet from Tmobile as we utilize YouTube and a lot of the web browsing stuff. It would be interesting to see what they say or if they will provide the service for free when I call.

Greetings: Spoke with Mercedes Rep and data is a free data plan that will be part of the package of Digital Extras when the complimentary one year is over. That is one reason they updated the Communication Module the other week. Charge will still be $15 a month for all digital extras, no extra. Still goes through T Mobile. I can use the Online Music like Apple Music that has the extra sound-for our upgraded radio system. Had to connect to Apple and Amazon with my current phone subscriptions. Sounds even better when listening to Apple online.
Where did you find the screen that shows the data and online connections as seen above??

Same for me, so I did not select a plan. I will just use my iPhone's hotspot unless I learn a way to access "complimentary" data.
Greetings: I did the complimentary data through my Mercedes App under Digital Extras. It is activated, and checking today, I have access to Online Music-Apple, Amazon and even Tidal, and not using my personal Hot spot or Apple Car Play. I did have to sign in just once for Amazon and Apple Music using my phone camera from the MBUX Screen.
Recommend another way by clicking the 5g located on top, right side where the other icons are. Click the 5g and the screen for these features are there.
Yesterday I proceeded to confirm on the app, once confirmed the app displayed the status as "Processing", shortly after (maybe about 30 minutes) I got an Email from the TMobile carrier that supplies the 5G in-car WiFi claiming my subscription has been canceled, this got me a bit worried as I thought maybe there was some miscommunication between the servers. Remember that I already subscribed and paid $15 a month for unlimited data before this. Today I get in the car and everything works the same way with all my internet connections. Hey if I can save $180 bucks for the first year why not?

I dunno the whole thing sounds like bad communication on MBs part. I’ll just continue using my hotspot I have on my phone with the shortcut automation so it starts automatically whenever MBUX boots up. It’s only 4g but good enough to stream 4 K video content on YouTube. There’s even Dolby Atmos music videos on YouTube.

I have yet to get the communication module update or any update for that matter. I was able to sign up for the complementary data and have verified it's working. Before I had the data plan, I could not do anything Internet related without connecting to my phone hotspot. Now, I can access Internet based services without my phone. You are correct in that MB has done a poor job at communicating.
They have done a terrible job. I received the communication module update last week. My app won’t allow me to move past the processing screen to activate the free data plan. I’ve tried through the ME website as well. Mercedes customer care and Me representatives don’t have a clue what I’m talking about and after an hour of back and forth with them I gave up. They referred me to the dealer at this point.
I’ll continue to hotspot as this so called free data isn’t worth the effort.

Happy to help. I’m set to auto-update myself, but for some reason the app hadn’t updated for at least five days.
Tier 2 advised updating to 3.51.0 in an email overnight, by which time 3.53.0 had been released with a note regarding the comfort data issue.
Also have not tried in-car, but fingers crossed. 🤞🏻

Woohoo! Thanks for your post, BP! After my MercedesMe app updated, I clicked through to the comfort data and it processed and activated. I just went out to my car and it is working. To celebrate, I blasted some Dolby Atmos encoded music via the built in Apple Music app!
