W214 E Class 48 Volt Hybrid Battery Cost

I am about to order a 2026 E class sedan for late August delivery. I have heard that the replacement cost of the 48 volt hybrid battery in the trunk is about $5,000+ which is what has prevented me from ordering a new W214. I asked my salesman for the VIN number of a 2025 W214 so that I can get a quote for a new 48 Volt battery to have an idea what the actual battery cost is. The cost of the hybrid battery is $2,000
plus labor of course and I was told one can reasonably expect the battery to last from 5 to 7 years and of course there are always exceptions. At $2,000 for a new hybrid battery that works for me. Just wanted to share this piece of information with other members.

Interesting, I didn't know that so thanks for sharing. Although in 5 to 7 years the cost will be higher I would imagine.

Does that include tax and all?

Or vice-versa, the cost could be lower, due to the economies of scale, when the installed base grows.

I believe Bosch makes it, and now is being used by Audi, by BMW, by Mercedes and also probably Volvo, which means there’s a big installed base being built up, and thus larger volumes.

Initially, the S-class had it, and later on the E-class, and the non-4-cylinder GLEs and GLSs etc. Then the range expanded into the C-class, the GLC, the 4-cylinder GLEs etc.

Similarly BMW also has a big range of products, that come with the 48V system. So does Audi.

That’s a LOT of vehicles being introduced or already on the road, with the mild-hybrid system. Thus the potential for prices to come down, if the market forces work, and the manufacturer, BOSCH decide to not price-gouge.

Here is where an extended warranty would make sense.

You posted 2026. Do you mean 2025?
