Oil Change

I did my 4th oil change today at 14,710 miles. I'm sticking to a pattern of roughly every 5K miles but did an initial early oil change at 722 miles. It gets easier every time. All total, these 4 oil changes cost me $630 total which is less than some spend on their first A service. One was done by the dealership costing $223 and the other three were done by me at an average $135 each. It would be nice to have the oil extraction option but without a dipstick you have to get under the car. Not much of an issue but certainly not as easy as extracting it out from the dipstick. This time I drained about 2 quarts initially and then added 2 fresh quarts to run and flush the engine a bit with fresher oil. It was left over from my last oil change since I buy it in 5L jugs and it only takes about 8 L to fill it. Discounting the added oil, I drained a total of 8.04 L (8.5q) which is what the dealership said they added on the last service invoice. Next oil change will be at the dealership for a B service but I'll change the air filters myself and have them just do the oil and brake fluid.

One thing I noticed is the Assyst Plus has multiple service items. All ask the oil type and nothing more than a confirmation that service was carried out. Anyone know the difference between Service 02, 03, 04, and 10? I would like to register the service but don't want to record that it was a full service, just an oil change. I didn't indicate any service in the first two oil changes I did prior to the "official" 10K at the dealership either but I'm not sure if that is the best way to go about it when doing your own service between dealership services. Anyone have any input to this?

Going to answer my own question based on searching and the 214 Service sheet. Looks like I'm going to indicate Service 03 only was carried out and not 02, 04, and 10. Wish I knew this earlier as I would have done a Service 03 the first two times I changed the oil and filter.

Service Item Meanings
Service 01 - Minor basic service (Service A)
Service 02 - Major basic service (Service B)
Service 03 - Oil and Filter
Service 04 - Brake Fluid
Service 05 - Combination filter
Service 06 - Dust filter (included in service B)
Service 07 - Activated charcoal filter
Service 08 - Air filter
Service 09 - Tilting/Sliding roof
Service 10 - Panoramic sliding sunroof
Service 11 - Fuel Filter
Service 12 - Spark Plugs
Service 13 - Coolant
Service 14 - Main Coolant Circuit
Service 15 - Trailer hitch
Service 16 - Parking Brake
Service 17 - Emergency Call System
Service 18 - Brake algorithm
Service 19 - Diesel particulate filter
Service 20 - Transmission
Service 25 - Rear Axle oil
Service 27 - Transfer case oil

I did my first oil change at the dealership right after the break-in, and it cost me $386.

I am surprised that Service 10, Panoramic sliding roof, shows up on the list at 15K miles since this is only required at 30K miles. I wonder if registering a full service instance advances the number of different services required even if the miles have not been reached. After one Full Service reset at 10K miles, my car now shows Service 07 (Activated charcoal filter) as the next one required.

I was wondering about that too. What is also interesting is that after doing a Service 03 it now shows Service 01, 03, 04, and 10 in the list. The service screen still shows next service in 5K miles which would be my 20K. It would be nice to find a definitive guide to how this works.

My first service was at around 4700 miles. The next is due in a little over 2k miles, since I do my service every 5k miles.

In my X213, I did change it at 1K, then at 5K, 10K, 15K etc., while in the X214, I skipped that 1K change.
