The Germans always pull this crap with the US market. Some fun examples (based on friends' purchases):
Audi sells the RS 6 Avant in the US and Canada, but only Canada can get the adaptive windshield wipers (like MB MAGIC VISION CONTROL) or cabin ionization/fragrance. Same on the A6 Allroad, on which you can order rear wheel steering. Not in the US.
BMW doesn't offer heated and cooled cupholders on lower-end X5 models, only the X5 M. You can't get the power luggage cover that folds into the floor (we had this on our EU model) in the US, but yes in Canada. And on most trims, except the M60 and M, you can't get the Bowers & Wilkins sound. Guess what? You can in Canada! Canada also received a few MB models the US never did, like the recent C wagon.

If you have a customer who wants an option and is willing to pay for it, let them! It's completely asinine that they pull this crap.
Honestly, ever since they introduced trim lines on their models a few years back, nothing made sense. Other than probably easier to to sell when the customer returns the lease or if purchased, trading it in.

At one time, in the early 2000s (when Deutsche marks were still valid currency), I used to travel into Munich a lot, and yeah, the taxis were almost exclusively Mercedes, with a few BMW 5 series and a few Audi A6s in the mix. Very basically specced models, and certainly not the halo products sold here in the US. In those days, I used to stay at the Arabella Sheraton in Munich.....hope it is still around. During my later journeys (into Frankfurt, Baden-Baden etc), I never traveled via taxi, and thus did not pay attention.

When I was in the Europe in the 60's and 70's those MB taxis had manual transmissions and hand crank windows. I bought a W115 for USD $5.500. IIRC there were 4 DMs to 1 USD.
