Sensor warranty voided after replacing the windshield somewhere else?

I had the windshield replaced at a local Safelite site, appointed by my insurance company. They were unable to calibrate the sensors after the replacement, so I brought the car to the dealership. Then I was told they couldn't do that because the rain sensor failed to communicate, very likely broken when the windshield was replaced, and the warranty for the sensor was voided because someone else touched (unplugged and re-plugged) it.
I did notice the rain sensing windshield blades work after the windshield was replaced, but I was told that didn't mean the sensor was in good condition. So it could have become faulty at any point, but I can't prove it wasn't damaged by Safelite.
So I'm stuck. Safelite doesn't agree it's their fault. Warranty of the sensor was voided, which would cost about $500 to replace it. Is that how warranty works? Sounds like we fuel the car or change engine oil by ourselves and that voids engine warranty. What worried me more is that, did void all the sensor warranty?
Any suggestions?

Sorry to hear about your experience. I've had good and bad experiences with Safelite. Safelite hires local labor to do the actual work. IMO there isn't any quality control. I've had 2 replacements on MB cars. One time the replacement was an MB windshield. The other time the windshield was (and is) a Chinese knock off that was apparent by just looking at the glass. Safelite supplied both windshields. My insurance company was no help. They said the part was functional and the policy states that replacement parts do not have to be OEM.

Not how warranty should work. You should argue it with MB. They should have to prove it was broken by neglect from Safelite or by you to deny the warranty.

Warranties do not work that way. The onus is on the claimant to prove a coverable loss. (It is in the fine print.)

Just had the windshield on my 2019 E450 replaced by Safelite: My insurance, State Farm would not pay for OEM - I really tried and failed. I decided that I would pay the extra with tax $296. Safelite then did all the calibration and I a certificate of calibration. So far, 30 days later everything works as before: Very happy with my local Safelite dealer/installer: Had an appointment, arrived on time, was taken in and job promised in 4 hours. Was finished in 2 1/2 hours.

Do these windshields have the heat and sound absorbing glass? I assume that Safelite and other windshield replacement services do not carry those. Wondering if anyone has needed to replace a sound absorbing windshield and what it costs compared to a standard MB windshield. I made sure that my new insurance policy covers OEM parts for all repairs, but will have to check if that includes glass coverage. I also wonder if MB dealerships stock them or if I would have a long wait for one to ship to the US.

Thanks!

Safelite carries the heat and sound absorbing glass, but one must request and verify what they are installing. They tried to install a plain one on my MB. Sending them back to get the correct replacement took an additional day because they were doing the replacement in my driveway.

If you are running this through insurance, I would go to them first; you are paying them for the coverage and therefore replacement, and if they chose the shop, they need to figure out how to make it right.

If it was an out of pocket situation, I would put pressure on Safelite. They do not want social media posts about customers having to go to the dealer to finish their job at great expense.

They don't carry it per se, but they will order and install OEM glass from Mercedes if requested.

When I delt with Safelite in Tampa, they said they had all materials in stock at their warehouse.

Exactly. I saw very good reviews online, but had very bad experience. And I guess their technicians don't fully understand the process of sensor assembly as I discover from online resources.
Windshield wise, I found MB glass has very poor quality, or at least, very bad quality control. The original one on my car, the first one they replaced with, the second one which is now on my car, and the one on the rental car (a 2025 C300), all have ripples here and there. I haven't seen such glass on any of other cars I've been in.

Doing that with the dealership as the first step.

I should have asked you which store you chose. I had very bad experience with the one at Huntington. But probably it depends on the technician who works on the car.

Mine doesn't do heat and sound absorbing. My local dealership didn't have it in stock and Safelite ordered from MB. Took weeks to get it. But they ship from US I believe. My insurance coverage was then than $100 if done at dealership, and full coverage at Safelite.
