Ambient Lighting Help

Hello all,

I was hoping someone here might be able to help me clarify an issue I’m currently discussing with my local dealership regarding the Ambient Lighting package fitted to my car (June 2024 build).

The vehicle was ordered with option code 891 - Ambient Lighting. While I fully understand that this is not the “Active” ambient lighting that reacts to music, my understanding is that option 891 still offers multicolor ambient lighting with a dynamic element i.e., that in multicolor mode the light transitions or "flows" within the strip rather than switching colors in a static / solid manner.

The challenge I’m facing is that my dealer is insisting that under option 891, the lighting is static and only changes colors in a solid way and that my vehicle is therefore operating as intended.

I’m not entirely convinced this is correct, as I’ve seen other vehicles with the same 891 option where the lighting does appear to have the dynamic/flowing behavior described above.

Would anyone here who has option 891 (and not the active ambient lighting option) be willing to share a short video demonstrating how the ambient lighting behaves on their car? This would be extremely helpful for me to show the dealer.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

I can't provide you with a video, because I traded the car in already, but my 2024 E350 Ambient lights were option 891 and they operated exactly as you're expecting them to.

Thank you, let's see what they say. My next appointment is with a technical support expert next week.

I am not confident that I will be able to convince them otherwise.

Update:

I was at the service center last week and had an extended discussion with the technical team (who were genuinely helpful). They acknowledged that the ambient lighting is not functioning as expected and performed a dedicated software update to the ambient lighting control module. Unfortunately, this did not resolve the issue.

The current assessment is that there may be a hardware limitation (particularly on early production builds) which could explain why I am not getting the dynamic / fluid behavior in the multi-color option.

For the time being, it appears I will have to live with it as is.
