It doesn't look terrible at all but I know how it looks like when you're too finicky like me in some areas
Well, a protective film also could do the trick you know some guys have their cars ppf wrapped .

Me three. I asked for a replacement. We'll see if that one fares any better.

Keep in mind if the replacement arrives undamaged and you install it, you will have to leave the hatch in the position it is in when the trim piece is installed.

Yeah, I'll likely skip installing it. I don't have the car yet so I didn't know how this would attach or not attach. Definitely not a great piece of hardware if you lose the ability to open/close the console.

If you temporarily position the broken front corner of the trim piece at the front edge of the closed hatch, you will find that there is not enough clearance to open hatch. Recommend getting the refund.

I thought the trim piece was supposed to go on the outside part of the console and not the moving door part. If it does, I'm wondering how it would interfere with the door that drops down not up. I agree that it's a cheap piece of plastic that has no place in these cars but if it attaches to the outside part of the console, I don't see how it interferes with the console opening.

The aftermarket trim piece does attach to the top of the console "frame". But it has a short "leg" that drops down below the edge of the opening that fills the gap between the frame and hatch. It may be possible to make the trim piece work by cutting away the leg on the forward most edge of the trim piece. Leaving the leg along the sides and rear edge should be sufficient to properly position the trim.

Here's the broken trim test fitted. What do you think?

However, I COULD NOT get the cover to slide open. The slight flange on the trim piece, which helps it fit securely in the opening, prevents the sliding cover from dropping down and moving.
Your results might vary, but I will not be using it, even though I didn't think it looked too bad.

It doesn't look terrible, but it cheepens the look of the wood console. The fact that it won't open says a lot about their design and attention to details. I'm betting the material will not hold up over time and will look worse as it ages and gets exposed to the sun. I would also worry about debris getting stuck under it and causing permanent damage to the natural wood over time.

I think it ruins the nice look of the console. Probably need one of this giant crown air fresheners hanging from the rear view mirror to go along with it…

I just got one the "Rejuvenate Wood Furniture and Floor Repair Markers" pack at Home Depot, filled it in and kept it moving - I don't think that trim will work (opening and closing) and after using the marker you would not know it was there.

Took my Black Ice pine trees down so they wouldn't show in the picture
Different view. Do you really think it looks that bad? Moot since it prevents console from opening, but still...

Sorry, yes I do. I was joking about the crown… 😉
