2 years ago I mounted the LED illuminated Star to my daughter’s GLB. I’ve done the same thing to my EQB now. See the GLB post https://mbworld.org/forums/glb-class...der-200-a.html for the work with a couple of new details:
- If you are buying the Chinese star from eBay as I did your cost will be under $40. However it is paramount to make sure about the 2 clips, see the GLB post. Chinese vendors tend to miss these differences, they sent wrong stars, they refunded the money but they didn’t want the stars back so I have 2 stars that don’t fit GLB/EQB.
- Careful when you drill a hole in the fuse box. Use the fuse terminal clip in the picture below and crimp it to the red wire. Then you will have to fish that wire through to the front.
- I have several fuse terminals as I had to buy a minimum of 20 and, together with a 1A (quite rare) fuse, I will ship a couple (it’s likely you will mess up the first) of the terminals to members interested in doing this (free).
- You will need to wrangle a wire coat hanger, stick it in the back of the terminal to insert it in the empty fuse slot. Be very careful, use a strong light, it works.
- Mount a ring or a spade terminal to the black wire and attach it to the very visible ground stud in front of the fuse box, you will recognize it because it has about a dozen brown (German standard for DC negative marking) wires hooked up to it.
Enjoy
Very nice! I'll keep this in mind for when the lease is up.
Do you happen to have the Driver Assistance Package? I know that on my other MBs, the illuminated star was not compatible due to sensors integrated within the star but I don't know if that's an issue on the EQB.
I didn’t want the Driver assisted Package. I know that I cherry picked some options such as Augmented…., Assisted parking, Braking assist, etc. There is a radar unit behind the Star but I didn’t have any problems so far. I will keep watching.
