Dash Cam

Hi All- happy and healthy new year to all! I am looking to purchase the dash cam feature and wondering about the thumb drive placement. Is there a specific USB C port it needs to be plugged into?

Indeed. It must be connected to one of the USB-C ports in the cup holder/phone charger area. The other ports do not have data access. I was hoping to use one of the lower ports, but it has to be one of the two by the cup holders. The dash cam on this car is an easy choice to make. Happy new year!

Does the 350 not have USB-C inside the center armrest? That's what I have my dashcam drive plugged into. I also have the 100 watt charging option so maybe that's where those ports come from.

Thanks all. How large of a thumb drive are you using?

I think the drive I'm using is either 256 or 512gb. It's more a matter of how long you want to keep the recordings before they overwrite.

Great call. I have a drive that sticks out a bit, and was worried about objects pushing it out or breaking the connector or PCB, so I didn't put it in the armrest console. Honestly didn't even try, good to know it's a valid location. I was really hoping to use one of the ports *under* the console in the empty space by the footwell, which would rarely be used.

I read about using those ports in a thread in the EQS or EQS SUV forum when I first bought EQE SUV (and they didnt have a forum for it here.) Think I recall one guy using a right-angle USB-C to USB-A adapter but I'm too lazy to use the search function right now to find it. My SSD drive has a long USB-C cable so it just sits on the bottom of the storage area. It does get kind of hot though so every now and then I move it to the top of the pile of stuff in there for better cooling.

Okay, so in my case, I know also why I didn't put it in the armrest console - no ports there in our cars. 🙃 I didn't spec the 100W charging on my sedan, and the SUV didn't come with that package either. There's a blank cutout for it, but no ports. Oh well, it has enough for us either way!

This is what you want. I bought these and they work wonderfully inside the center-console arm rest. Completely out of the way and no risk of damage.

I don't know of anything that can use 100 watts anyways, but I did just buy an LG Gram lappy that does 65 watt USB-C PD charging. So I won't need to take a charger for my phone or laptop when I hit the road in my EQE SUV.

I have a usb-c to microSD adapter. It's very small. Look for a one that doesn't not have the microSD card sticking half way out.

I use a 512gb USB stick that also contains 212gb of music. No problem with either.

I am looking to retrofit 100W pd supply for my sedan are you interested in doing the same?

I have a few questions about the operations of the dash cam. Do you have to voice activate it every time you get in the car? Does it only use the front camera while driving? What is the overall quality like?

Only front with no sound, you can enable loop recording to start automatically.

Go to Apps, Dash Cam, and hit record or Enable Loop Recording. It may require you to accept some conditions. Some markets may not allow automated loop recording due to privacy considerations, in which case you'll have to manually activate it each time. You can also tap its icon at the top right to start loop recording, it's much faster than navigating the menus.

Your profile does not show what country you are in. Automatic dashcam recording is country specific.

The recording quality is good. If you live in a country with very cold winter then you should get a storage device rated for cold temperatures.

Thanks for chiming in as well, forgot what the resolution is, was it 1080P? 1080P and higher but not exactly QHD?

I think it is 720P, but looks pretty good. This resolution uses less storage space.
