I think the main benefit of this over a dedicated cam is how nicely integrated it is and the dealership can't unplug it when you take the vehicle for service.

It's actually 1280P. The resolution is 1920x1280, a 3:2 aspect ratio. It is generally higher quality than most third party dash cams, though I've noticed that low-light situations tend to be a little less ideal. It does attempt to do some in-camera HDR, which I also find interesting. Not true HDR, but more like level compensation.

That is much much better! Worth it then. It is the same camera as the AR camera right? What is the aperture? Might explain the low light graininess.

Beg to differ. They just need to unplug the USB drive before starting the car and plug it back in when service is completed and the car is parked. But I doubt that they would bother doing this.

For those who don't have the option to buy / unlock the camera, here's something that works:
Go to your online profile (website) and set your address to another country. The Netherlands for instance.
no need to put an actual address, just the country will do.
now go to the store via your phone app and you will see the option to buy the camera.
Once bought, go back to your online profile and reset the correct address
I have done the above and it worked;
I'm in France where the dashcam is not available and managed to get it via the Netherlands.
The camera also started to record automatically as this is standard in that country
there's also no risk, because you have a few weeks to test it,
if you don't like it, you send an email and the sale will be cancelled at no cost

Anybody have their dash cam fog up or some kind of condensation when weather is hot ?
Bring it in service few times and all they said was software update would fix it but i can physically see its build up and goes away ( never completely tho )
