iPhone Key Pairing Finally Works!
iPhone Key Pairing Finally Works!
Hi folks. After receiving my new EQE 350 last year, I tried several times to set up my iPhone as a key for the vehicle. After a lot of frustration, I finally gave up because it just would not work. But there have been several software updates since then, and I believe one of them referred to something with regards to this function. Anyways, I tried pairing my phone again the other day and miraculously it worked perfectly. I can now, if I wish, leave my key fob at home and just use my iPhone to enter and start my car. Although I don't intend to do this routinely, it is a lovely little feature which may come in handy someday. If you have been similarly frustrated, I would recommend that you give this a try again. I also removed my iPhone case from my phone when placing it on the pairing pad in the car. I don't know if this made any difference or not but if you still have trouble pairing, you might try this as well.
And one more thing. After I paired my iPhone, I tried to pair my wife's phone. This did not seem to work as expected, but I subsequently discovered that the way you attach other iPhones is by sharing the key from the first iPhone paired with the second iPhone. If I remember correctly, this is done inside the Mercedes-Benz app on your phone, which will send a Mercedes-Benz key card to the wallet in the second iPhone.
Merry Christmas to all.

Interesting. Please detail the steps to start the pairing, ie., what function in the Mercedes Me app, what setup or profile in the car, and is the pairing pad the same as the wireless charging pad?
It's been about a week since I did it, so I'm not sure if I remember the steps exactly, but it was very simple. I believe I simply opened up the MB app on my phone and one of the icons was to activate dysfunction. I pushed the button and followed the instructions which consisted mainly of setting my iPhone down on the charging pad in the car and then the rest happened automatically. As I remember, I didn't need to have the car switched on and have the keys with me inside the car.
During previous attempts to do this many months ago, the system seemed to ask for a six digit code and all other sorts of things, but all of that seems to have disappeared now and the parenting process is quite simple. Give it a try and I hope it works good for you. Merry Christmas.

It must be country specific feature as there is no icon in my Mercedes-Benz (USA/CA) app and yous is the only posting that I have seen about this for 2023 models.
What about the door handles action when approaching he car, or do you have to touch them to open the car?

I set it up right from the beginning, but the process is far from clear
I no longer use my key at all (only take it with me on longer trips, just to be sure)
The key also works on my apple watch btw, though i might delete it.
Because i sometimes forget my phone in the car, but still manage to lock it with the watch.
However, the watch often runs out of battery so i could potentially be locked out. (and it has a special cable that is not readily available)
also, if i delete it from my watch, the car won't lock if the phone is inside. So this will also remind me to take the phone

I need to correct what I wrote above. If you want to share the key with another person, you can do this within the iPhone messages app. Just pull up the card for your key and hit the little sharing arrow and you can send it to another person in all of the usual ways. Works great. Merry Christmas to all.
