Mercedes me Charge
Mercedes-Benz Canada provides 1 year of free charging (not 2 like in the US), but I cannot find out what charging stations are covered. In Ontario we have Ivy/Flow, Park+Charge, PlugShare, Electrify Canada, ChargePoint (only 2 stations) and maybe some others. Activation from Mercedes me sets up a ChargePoint account where an RFID card can be requested.
The process for DC fast charging at a public is unclear. I have been to two Flo stations and I think in both cases I had to tap the ChargePoint RFIF card that is linked to my Mercedes me Charge account for authorization. In both cases I was billed for the charge.
On a few other occasions I connected to a Park+Charge station and it is my recollection/impression that it recognized the car and started charging without the use of the RFID card or a credit card, and there was no bill for the charge. Last week I went back to the same Park+Charge station and it would not proceed without authorization from a credit card or account.
So the two questions:
1. What stations are covered by the 1 year free charging in Canada?
2. Should these stations automatically recognize the car when it is connected, authenticate with Mercedes me Charge, all without the use of the RFID card?
1. Associated stations are ChargePoint, BC Hydro (not much help in Ontario), FLO, Electric Circuit, and Shell Recharge. Assume charging is free at these stations, but that does not explain my 2 bills. I wonder if the free charge only kicks-in if the session is initiated by the MBUX?
2. The MBUX can be used to initiate a charging session, see this link.
