Carplay and WiFi

Carplay and WiFi
I have an issue with Carplay which I think is mostly an Apple issue, but I'm curious what others think.
To use Carplay I'm linked to the car via WiFi. My phone (iPhone 16, iOS 18.2.1) then wants to use WiFi as the data connection, not cellular data. Since the MB does not provide a data connection, the phone has no data connectivity. This isn't an issue when driving, but when I arrive somewhere, even after hitting the Start/Stop switch, the Infotainment remains on and the WiFi live, so my phone still has no connectivity. As soon as I turn off WiFi in the phone, connectivity over cellular is restored. I suppose the other alternative is to turn off the Infotainment system.
Anyone else experience this?

In order to use CarPlay, you do not need to be connected to the car's Wi-Fi hotspot. This is often misunderstood. CarPlay manages a separate Wi-Fi connection. All you need to do is pair your phone via Bluetooth and the rest is handled automatically. Go into your iPhone's Wi-Fi settings and remove the Wi-Fi connection to the car. Once done, CarPlay will continue to work and your phone will use cellular data.

If you don't have T-Mobile Hotspot subscription in the vehicle. Make sure you go into your iOs WiFi setting and forget the WiFi ( usually it listed as MBUX 9xxxx your last 5 digi of vin )
Then go back to your Bluetooth setting to forget the MBUX current pairing. Re-pairing again like a new device, then you will get the data from your iPhone instead of the not working WiFi hotspot from Mercedes.
