That’s a crummy thing to happen. Have you had a chance to turn the SUV off, wait a while and turn back on to see if the computer resets and solves the problem?
These newer cars sometimes act like Windows 95.

Also wondering if there's perhaps some debris that's tripping a pinch sensor and needs to be cleaned out.

There is a way to reset the system. It is in the owner's manual and goes something like Home-Setting-System-Reset This will erase all the user provided information like phone, settings etcetera. However, it might be successful in resetting the system so that the Sunroof works correctly. Might be worth trying rather than just waiting 3 weeks. Worst case is you will need to reset everything. Best case is you re enter but also get control back on the sunroof. Perhaps verify first that the track is clean and nothing is preventing the sunroof from closing. Also verify that you are operating the control properly. No fun for sure but typical with new cars and new systems.

I had this last week. This required a visit to the dealer. My dealers website showed 3 weeks for an appointment but I just showed up figuring it really couldn’t be driven unless there was no chance of rain and they would attend to a new model. I had it back un 3 hours but it did require the dealer visit for them to clear some error and reset the software. Working fine now - dealer said I was the 3rd person to come in with this issue so it’s not rare. I know it wasn’t obstructed since it would close fully then just pop back up. The reset sunroof instructions I. The manual didn’t work. Unfortunately, this needed a dealer visit.

Update: Local Dealer "renormalized" my sunroof that wouldn't close all the way (would pop up in to ventilation position) only for the issue to return. They are having trouble understanding why the fix isn't saving. Argh...

Any update? I'm having the same problem with my sunroof; it would close and pop back up. i been trying to close it a few dozen times in one day with no luck. it starts happening when the battery was under 10%. since i charged it back up to 80% i was able to close it. i don't know if the battery has anything to do with it or it just coincident. I don't want to open it since it rains all week and the earlies the dealership can take a look at it is Friday.

The owner's manual described some ways to resolve issues including resetting the sunroof. Has these been tried?
The sliding sunroof cannot be closed and you cannot see the cause.
% The term "sliding sunroof" refers to the panorama roof with power tilt/sliding panel.
If the sliding sunroof is obstructed during closing and reopens again slightly:
# Immediately after automatic reversing, swipe forwards across the control panel (/ page 104) and hold until the sliding sunroof is closed.
The sliding sunroof will be closed with increased force.
If the sliding sunroof is obstructed again and opens again slightly:
# Repeat the previous step.
The sliding sunroof will be closed again with increased force.
The sliding sunroof or the roller sunblind is not operating smoothly.
# Reset the sliding sunroof and the roller sunblind.
Resetting the sliding sunroof and the roller sunblind
# Swipe forwards across the control panel (/ page 104) and hold repeatedly until the sliding sunroof is completely closed.
# Press and hold the control panel for another second.
# Press and hold the control panel until the front roller sunblind is completely closed.
# Press and hold the control panel for another second.
# Use automatic operation to fully open and then close the sliding sunroof.
The sliding sunroof cannot be closed and you cannot see the cause.

It’s a software issue as mentioned above. The dealer deleted and reinstalled software and mine has been fine since.

I had same thing happen a couple weeks ago, so annoying. It required a short visit to the dealer to reset the system and re-calibrate the sunroof.
Process took 15 mins, I spent more time waiting. 😂

They didn’t give me many specifics. It was definitely software-related. They reset the main software as I had to setup my profile again. But it seemed to work! Apologies for the lack of details. But I did pull up this thread which was helpful.

If you are using the haptic finger slides on the control above the rear view mirror try moistening your finger first. My finger tips are usually so dry the haptic commands do not work until I wet the tips a tiny bit. I hate this type of control over a plain button.

i managed to get it to close by swiping a second time while it’s at the most closed state and managed to get it closed. In case someone else runs into this

this problem happened to me today and just like all of you I can't close it. hey Mercedes close the sunroof doesn't work. it will tell me this is currently not working or something like that.
try everything listed above, doesn't work.
so I try to press it button during closing process, hope sunroof can sit to fully close position as possible so bugs dont fly in.
when it about to close it, I press the button again, it stop. then I open my door, get out to see it from outside to know is it low enough to block the bug.
and I went back to the car, I press the button again and magically, it closed, does not pop up again.
I dont know it is anything to do with opening door, or it was so close to fully close so computer adjust itself? but it closed lol
