Steering wheel heater

Took delivery Friday of a 450 4 Matic.

still figuring out the tech but one thing that’s really perplexed me is the ability to turn on the heated steering wheel.

I got the screen to link the steering wheel heat to come on with the heated seats, but can find no physical or screen button to turn on the steering wheel by itself:

I can get hey Mercedes to do it but can’t figure out a manual way.

You can turn on the heated steering wheel by enabling any level of the heated seats by via 'Hey Mercedes' which you already know.

It’s the strangest thing ever , but actually says in your spec sheet that there is no separate physical button for the steering heating. It only works in tandem with hey merc or seat heating 😂

It's been cold here in PA for several weeks and I find setting the my heated seat to level 1 along with activating the heated steering wheel works very well. The seat heats up very fast, faster than any other vehicle we've owned.

Your EQS SUV is probably equipped with the 902 Rapid Front Seat Heating option.

I agree. I immediately lower the setting to the first level when using the heated seats.

Same here, otherwise it will cook you. But feels great on a cold morning.

If anyone is in doubt whether they have the heated steering wheel option or not just say “Hey Mercedes turn on the heated steering wheel” and she will either turn it on or tell you it is not available on this car.

Purchase and swap out

Hi,

my 23 EQS should be delivered this week but the steering wheel is not heated. Anyone know if I could buy one and swap it out myself? I’ve read that it’s not too difficult in general, but not sure about this model.

I thought the heated steering wheel only worked in tandem with the seats. So you can turn on the heated steering wheel exclusive of the seats by using the “Hey Mercedes” option? I’ll have to try that tomorrow morning.

Yes, use the phrase "turn on/off steering wheel heating".

Caution advised?

I cant answer for sure, but I would be cautious as there are other sensors in the steering wheel that could potentially impact other functions. (Auto drive assist?)

Worked like a charm ... tried it this morning & steering wheel turned on without the heated stats being on. Who Knew? Thanks for the advice.

Mercedes really should add a button for steering wheel heating. Before we bought our EQS SUV, we had a BMW X7 and it has a button to enable or disable steering wheel heating right on the steering wheel at the bottom which was easy to use and very convenient.

It is strange. All my prior MBs had a separate control for the heated steering wheel.

I couldn't find the heating steering wheel button like on my BMW, so I asked Mercedes to turn it on, which is OK. I also ask Mercedes to turn on heat on the driver's seat. It turns on, but it does not understand that I want to lower the heat setting. I tried every phrases I could think of, but the seat heating did not lower. I ended up manually pressing the button on the door. Does anyone have success phrase for that, or do I have to wait for more advance AGI?

GLE 450e
On the left of the steering wheel at the back where you can adjust the steering wheel, there is a switch you can use to turn on/off the steering wheel heat. Just in case if "Hey Mercedes" does not respond properly as it has done to me.

I find it strange that the feature doesn't include the heated arm rests and console.

Which EQ* vehicle do you have? I just checked on my EQE SUV and do not find any button other than the "joystick" to adjust the wheel position -- but perhaps I am looking in the wrong place...

Is this new on newer year models?

There is no separate (physical) switch for steering wheel heating in the MY23 EQS SUV. I don't know if that was added to the MY24, but they are not yet available so the post by dhishi isn't correct. There are two methods I know of to activate steering wheel heating in the EQS SUV, using "Hey Mercedes" or activating the driver seat heating using the physical switch on the drivers door.

I see dhishiowns a GLE 450e which may have a button for the steering wheel heating and he may have assumed the EQS SUV did as well. But I feel it was design mistake by MB to omit a physical button in the EQS SUV. There should always be a physical button to turn steering wheel heating on and off.
