When do you get 200kw charging?

What are the conditions to get 200kw charging? I charge my car from 45% usually and max it goes is around 160-170kw (this is based on the what the car says the max it supports not the charger). The charger should support 350kw technically, previously it used to be a 150kw charger only and car still said max charging speed as 160kw.

That tracks with what InsideEVs found. You'll see 200kW at 30% and below.

You will most like never see 200kw on a 350kwh EV stations. Even on a perfect day the most i seen is 175khw. I'm happy with anything above 100kwh.

I only see 102 KWH max speed on 350kwh Electrify america chargers. How to get more charging speed?

Firstly, make sure you do not have ECO mode on for charging. That will limit it to around 100 kW.

i usually drive on comfort which is the standard behavior. Also when i charge the car is mostly off. Does it matter at that point in time?

Apologies that I wasn't clear on my last response.
I meant "ECO Mode" for charging, which is something entirely different than ECO Mode for driving.
Bring up the charging screen in your car and you should see a slider button for ECO Mode on/off.

Depending on your daily range requirements, it is best to allow the SoC to get to 20% or below before charging your battery. Also, precondition the battery by using the NAV system to map you to a nearby DC Fast Charger. This is important if you want faster charging, up to 200 kW which is the maximum charging speed the battery can accept. Cold weather affects the rate of charge so 150 kW to 170 kW is more likely when it is cold, especially for the MY23 EQS SUV which does not have a heat-pump.

Here in south Florida I have 2 EA charging stations within 15 miles of my house. One station has 150kW chargers and the other 350kW chargers. Both relatively new. I would routinely get faster charging rates from the 150kW chargers than the 350 ones. Never made much sense to me because I used the same routine when I went to charge my car. I can see why people are frustrated because we expect to get similar charging rates each time and currently they vary considerably. I have to say that on occasion I get a gas pump that is extremely slow for my ICE car, but that is rare. I’m done with my free 2 year EA charging so will rely on my home charger for 99% of my future charging.

ECO mode is far better for the battery, and is the recommended setting. It limits charging to about 100kWs (I have seen up to 107kW) and max charge to 80%, which is best for the battery.

Don't disagree, but it's nice to be able to go to a higher speed when you need it!

I regularly get ~200kW at the local EA 350kW chargers, sometimes even a bit higher.

Same. I think the highest we've seen is 207kw. The EQS charges really great. It holds a pretty flat curve and charges very quickly at higher states of charge. Very good road-tripper IMO.

If you charge to 80% instead of 100%, you will cut that charge time in half.

I've only had my 2023 EQS 450 4Matic SUV for about 2 weeks, but in a road trip to Atlanta from Raleigh I stopped at several EA chargers and if I pulled in with 20% or less in the "tank" I was seeing at or slightly above 200kW peak charging rates. Mercedes is really good as you can see in MBUX what your max charging speed would be at any given time right in the system while driving so you should know what to expect if you plug into a charger (assuming the charger can provide the level of power the car can take). I was typically able to get from about 15% SOC to close to 80% SOC (about 75kWh added) within the 30 minutes of free EA charging which works out to an average of about 150kW over the 30 minutes. That was at a 350kW EA charger.

Here's an image from a charging session in Atlanta on an EA charge - this is at 37% SOC and still getting over 180kW which I think is pretty good!

Pulled into an 350kw Hyper fast EA charging center here in the ATL after running car down to 15% for the first time. I capped out at 207. This was a first for me but I do average 200 at most 350kw EA chargers around these parts

you have battery warranty for 10 years so why worry about it now?

maybe you get a replacement battery soon if we always use non-eco mode?
